Coaching Assistant (Flint Falcons) at YMCA of Greater Flint – Flint, Michigan
About This Position
General Function: As the coaching assistant, you will be responsible for supporting participants and staff in the YMCA of Greater Flint Falcons swim team program. This role focuses on fostering a positive and inclusive team environment, providing direction around stroke techniques, and assisting in the swim team practices. You will work closely with the team of Lead Coaches and Head Coach to deliver workouts and support the growth and development of swimmers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide constructive feedback to swimmers to enhance their skills and performance
- Provide a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for swimmers
- Foster a positive and supportive team atmosphere that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth
- Maintain open and effective communication with swimmers, parents, and coaching staff
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss goals, expectations, and upcoming events
- Assist in the implementation of emergency action plans and risk management strategies during practices and events
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children
- Attend required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising children
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Effect on End Results: The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the overall success of the Falcon Swim Team. This position is primarily concerned with supporting the development of youth and building positive long-term relationships with swimmers and parents.

Minimum Age:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Education/Certifications:
- At least 2 years of high school
- Cumulation of at least two years of competitive swim, coaching, or swim instruction
People Skills:
- Work effectively under stress

- Work well with people and youth
- A desire to undertake efforts to connect with others, show responsibility, engage effectively with others, and care about our cause
Technical Skills:
- Operate office equipment (copiers, binders, folders, etc.)

- Must be able to remain alert
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
- Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions)
Working Conditions:
- Work in an aquatic environment which may be hot and humid
- Work in air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned area
- Work outdoors in sunlight, with pollens
- Work in high humidity
- Work in areas with noise level over 50 decibels
- Work on feet for extended periods of time
