Position OverviewPosition: Instrumentation / Field Service Technician
Location: Western United States

Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Field Service Technician to support customers across the Western United States. This role focuses on hands-on instrumentation service, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair while working independently in a variety of industrial environments and collaborating with internal service and management teams.

Key objectives include:

Providing reliable and professional field service support to customersApplying strong technical aptitude to instrumentation, calibration, and repair activitiesSupporting customer operations through responsive, high-quality service executionAdapting to varying industrial environments and customer site requirementsRole & ResponsibilitiesThe Field Service Technician will support customers throughout the Rust Automation & Controls service region, working independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with internal teams.

Key responsibilities include:

Daily travel to a diverse customer base across multiple industrial environmentsApplying instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and service equipmentSuccessful completion and application of apprenticeship-level instrumentation trainingAdapting to customer-specific safety, operational, and environmental requirementsPerforming hands-on troubleshooting, calibration, and repair activitiesUtilizing hand tools and electronic testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issuesMaintaining professionalism, safety compliance, and quality standards in the fieldRegional travel within the following states: UT, CA, CO, WY, NV, ID, MT, ND, HIQualifications & ProfileEducation & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)Associate Degree in a technical field (preferred)Field service or industrial experience (preferred)Instrumentation training or apprenticeship experience (preferred)Calibration and/or metrology experience (preferred)Safety certifications or credentials (preferred)Skills & CompetenciesDemonstrated basic electrical and mechanical knowledgeKnowledge of instrumentation systems (preferred)Ability to use hand tools and electronic testing equipmentStrong computer proficiency and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and qualityStrong interpersonal and customer-facing communication skillsAbility to work independently and exercise sound judgmentSelf-motivated with strong organizational and prioritization skillsDependable, punctual, and accountable for assigned responsibilitiesCuriosity and desire to learn and develop professionallyWillingness and ability to travel extensively and work flexible schedulesValid Driver’s License with a safe driving recordBenefits & PerksCompensation based on education and experienceStability and security of a family-owned organizationExtensive training and professional development opportunitiesComprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.Competitive paid time offLife insurance401(k) with company matchCompany Vehicle Is This You?Do you enjoy hands-on technical work in industrial environments?Do you take pride in solving problems and supporting customer operations?Do you thrive working independently while representing a trusted organization?Do you value learning, growth, and long-term career stability?If you answered YES, Rust Automation & Controls would love to welcome you to our family.
