Muskoka Lumber, a trusted name in the building materials industry, is looking for a dedicated and reliable Timber Mill Plane / Saw Operator to join our Port Carling location. In this active, physical role, your focus on safety, accuracy, equipment setup, and preventative maintenance will help ensure smooth and efficient mill operations. Whether you’re operating planer and saw equipment, performing knife and blade changes, or supporting production flow, you’ll be an important part of our hardworking team that keeps Muskoka building.


Key Responsibilities:


As a Timber Mill Plane/ Saw Operator you will play a critical role in the day-to-day mill operations - supporting production efficiency, equipment reliability, and product quality.

  • Assist with the setup, adjustment, and safe operation of power-fed planer machines
  • Assist with the setup, adjustment, and safe operation of timber saw and re-saw equipment
  • Select, install, and adjust planer knives and cutter heads to ensure proper cutting performance
  • Assist with changing planer heads, resaw blades, and related cutting components as required
  • Perform regular daily maintenance on planer machines, timber saws, compressors, and related equipment
  • Assist with preventative maintenance tasks including greasing equipment, cleaning components, and inspecting mechanical systems
  • Operate and safely use hand and power tools including wrenches, drills, knife setting tools, wire brushes, and other maintenance tools
  • Assist with draining condensation from compressors and supporting compressor startup and shutdown procedures
  • Identify equipment issues and report maintenance needs to Supervisor promptly
  • Assist with unloading rail trucks and delivery trucks of raw materials, including proper sorting and sizing of lumber
  • Maintain dimensional lumber knowledge and ensure production accuracy
  • Load and unload materials from delivery trucks and customer vehicles as required
  • Prepare production materials and customer orders accurately and efficiently, assisting customers with locating and loading materials in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Operate forklifts and other yard and mill equipment safely (after receiving proper certification)
  • Receive and verify incoming shipments against bills of lading or purchase orders
  • Report damaged, missing, or incorrect inventory to the Receiving Clerk or Supervisor
  • Perform regular housekeeping duties to maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas
  • Maintain clear and safe aisles, walkways, and equipment access zones
  • Follow all company health and safety policies, including PPE use and hazard reporting
  • Participate in training sessions and toolbox talks as scheduled
  • Support other tasks or departments as required by Management

Required skills, abilities and attributes:

  • Prior experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, lumber yard, warehouse, or construction environment, as asset. Previous sawmill experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment setup, knife and blade changes, and mechanical adjustments; ability to recognize equipment performance issues and report maintenance needs
  • Experience with equipment maintenance tasks such as greasing, cleaning, blade changes, and basic mechanical adjustments, is an asset
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools including wrenches, drills, grease guns, and related tools
  • Strong literacy and communication skills, including reading, writing, listening, and verbal comprehension
  • Familiarity with dimensional lumber specifications and lumber types, an asset
  • Ability to recognize and size lumber using numerical measurements
  • Forklift certification is an asset (training available if not yet certified)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Safety-first mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Professional and respectful with co-workers and supervisors
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to a positive, team-oriented workplace
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the role, including regular lifting of up to 80 lbs
