About This Position
Job Summary:
The Regional Director of Patient Access oversees the daily functions and operation of, pre-registration, insurance verification, authorization and financial counseling for both inpatient and for outpatient services across Valhalla, MidHudson and Health Alliance campuses. The Regional Patient Access Director is responsible for the successful implementation of policy, ongoing management, and process improvement, integrates, develops policy, and overall success of the patient access functions. This individual will support the VP Revenue Cycle and direct daily activities of patient access areas for all inpatient and outpatient hospital services, including central scheduling, pre-registration, verification, financial counseling, registration and cashiering and aim to improve the patient experience, increase patient volumes, retain current patients and expand access.
Responsibilities:
Provides vision, leadership and operational oversight for all Patient Access functions and Senior Access leaders across the organization. This position will establish positive, collaborative relationships with operational leaders.
Actively leads and/or participates in modernizing Patient Access. This includes but is not limited to: goal setting (department level and/or overall revenue cycle), tracking and reporting of metrics, development and implementation of action plans to achieve goals, like Revenue Cycle Initiatives (RCIs), the review and implementation of new technologies, standardization of policies and processes and development of communication tools, both for staff and internal customers.
Organizes functions through establishing clear accountabilities, delegation of duties and appropriate departmentalization without creating silos. Develops and maintains an effective, visible and well- respected leadership team by selecting, evaluating, coaching and managing the performance of qualified professionals. Negotiates and recruits with other department managers the need for cross training and support in their areas as necessary. Promotes team-building relationships in all areas of responsibility. Works in a collaborative manner with all managers/team leaders to ensure a successful and compliant revenue cycle process.
Accountable for a comprehensive and effective communication strategy with the department that promotes Employee Engagement, which includes enhanced employee productivity and morale. Communication style should promote a common understanding of the market, vision, strategy and accountabilities. Promotes a culture of two-way communications and creates opportunities for staff participation. Staff should have regular assessments and educational opportunities. Determines appropriate staffing levels, monitors compensation and strengthens recruiting and retention process.
Additional Responsibilities
Manages non clinical staff in a manner that promotes optimal productivity, achieves patient and physician satisfaction and engages employees to perform at their highest level, all consistent with the Westchester Medical Health System.
Coordinates process improvement and daily quality monitoring of key performance metrics and accuracy of accounts. Establishes a monitoring system to understand trends, system issues and make appropriate recommendations for process improvement, proactively developing and focusing on implementation of changes
Coordinate the integration of pre-registration, pre-certification insurance verification and medical necessity checks for all patients for each facility with Scheduling to ensure resolution of relevant matters.
Various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, performance evaluations, schedules, and termination and weekly time cards.
Ensures adequate professional staffing levels. Responsible for the coordination of staffing needs to support accurate completion of all scheduled patients prior to the date of service
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: The successful candidate is expected to possess a minimum of 10 years of management experience in hospital registration, scheduling and financial counseling required in a large academic medical center. An equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirementsDeep knowledge and understanding of hospital revenue cycle workflow design and system implementation. Experience with Cerner Revenue Cycle systems a plus.
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in experience
