Pierce Transit's Community Development Department is recruiting for our next Community Development Assistant – Intern!
This is an opportunity for currently enrolled undergraduate students who want to participate in real-world application of their field of study. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in community engagement under our Community Development department.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build skills and gain experience in community development, public engagement and community outreach, as well as provide them with an introduction to the transit industry.
The student will work alongside experienced professionals and will assist in planning for and staffing a variety of community engagement events to share information about Pierce Transit services and projects, with the goal of increasing community awareness and use of Pierce Transit services. The student will interact with diverse community members and internal staff, representing the Community Development Department.
This is trainee-level work of limited duration in which the student provides technical assistance in the administration of a program while enrolled in a vocational school, college or university.

Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the classification and have the mobility, balance, coordination, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the essential functions performed. Must be able to transport supplies/materials from vehicle to building for meetings and presentations, set-up and tear-down outreach booths, and travel to/from various community locations to conduct work. Ability to move objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment or in the field at various job locations. Operation of Agency outreach vehicle to travel to work locations, job sites or to various meetings is required. When in the office, work is subject to normal office noise. When in the field, the position is subject to inclement weather conditions, traffic and potentially hazardous conditions.

- Provides program support to the Community Development Sales and Outreach team while learning business practices, policies and procedures.
- Assists Community Development staff in planning and preparing for outreach and education events and functions.
- Staffs community outreach events, including but not limited to farmers' markets, fairs and other community events.
- Delivers internal and external presentations to promote Agency services, projects and general information.
- Promotes Pierce Transit services and projects to community members.
- Generates ORCA and Rideshare leads for the Department.
- Demonstrates reliable and consistent attendance.
- Operate Agency outreach vehicles.
- Performs related work as required.
Required:
- Graduation from high school or GED,
- Actively enrolled in an institute of higher learning pursuing degree in community development, marketing, communications, business or other closely related area of study.
- Experience in community engagement and delivering presentations.
- Ability to drive agency vehicle.
- Individuals must pass a background check.
- Valid Washington State driver's license at time of hire.
Other Requirements:
- Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check as part of the selection process.
- This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week while college is in session and up to 30 hours when college is not in session.
- Must be available to work on-site at Pierce Transit and at various locations in Pierce County.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
