About This Position

Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health Pediatric Practice is seeking a full-time Diabetes Educator RN to assume clinical responsibility for a specific aspect of diabetic patients. This role is based at the Cooperman Barnabas Pediatric Specialty Center in West Orange, NJ.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

Preferred:

  • Experience as a pediatric diabetes educator, highly preferred
  • Current CDE certification

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS Certification approved by AHA
  • Current New Jersey Professional Registered Nurse’s License

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift, 40 hours/week (M, W, TH 9AM-5:30PM, Tu 9:30AM-8PM, Fr 8AM-2:30PM)
  • Full-time Schedule (travel between West Orange and Newark)

Essential Functions:

  • Assess the patient’s past history and current condition, establish and monitor the patient/family goals and outcomes
  • Coordinate, monitor and evaluate patient care in the outpatient setting
  • Assess and implement patient/family education and home care needs
  • Use an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess patients’ age specific needs and age specific treatment.
  • Specifically responsible for review and management of patient blood sugar levels, including application of the Continuous Glucose Monitoring System and insulin pumps.
  • Plan and conduct patient education classes as necessary.
  • Informing patients of lab results, patient education tests such as training patients to administer medications at home, and administration of injectable medications in office as required.
