About This Position
Outreach Counselor
Outreach Counselors at Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) ensures that the people supported can pursue personalized goals in a valued and supportive environment. An Outreach Counselor provides assessment, planning and implementation of support for individuals receiving service through the department. The position supports individuals to achieve skills and knowledge to assist them in their daily independent living in the community. This position works closely with Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) and the individual's family and support network to ensure the establishment of meaningful goals and the delivery of quality service.

Salary: Step 1: $27.54/hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Schedule: Flexible Schedule
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated skill and ability in coaching, training, and supporting people with developmental disabilities to identify and accomplish a potentially broad range of goals.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people who may have mental health issues, and/or substance abuse issues etc.
- Considerable background in direct program delivery in the Community Living field with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and CLBC.
- Knowledge of the principles of harm reduction is an asset. Ability to design and implement person centred supports.
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including the ability to be non-judgmental, respectful, and empathetic.
- Good organization and time management skills and the ability to work effectively with families, social workers, CLBC facilitators and professionals.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and/or weekends and evening. Working knowledge of computers is required.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a university or Community College with a degree or diploma in Human Services. An equivalent of education and experience may be considered.
- First Aid, CPR, TB clearance and a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s license required. Use of personal vehicle required.
