Job Description
Performs a variety of general maintenance and mechanical duties.
- Perform a variety of mechanical duties including general plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical work to maintain heliports and other District facilities and property
- Perform general electrical work including installation, maintenance and repair of electrical components
- Perform masonry work including installing concrete block, building concrete forms, pouring and finishing concrete and applying stucco
- Install, service and maintain air conditioning units
- Troubleshoot problems, repair and install pumps and motors
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces including all phases of preparation and clean up
- Perform a variety of woodworking tasks including installing crown molding, trim, door and window frames, and building and installing cabinetry
- Maintains the Districts driveways, runways, sidewalks and parking lots
- Install ceramic tiles, vinyl and wood laminate flooring
- Hang drywall including finishing by taping and mudding and applying texture
- Build, repair and install trusses, soffit, fascia, vinyl siding and rain gutters
- Perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and changing air filters, replacing light bulbs, cleaning equipment, pressure washing, and performing routine roof and building maintenance
- Cooks and assists with catering meals for events held at the District
- May perform a variety of lawn care work to assist Grounds staff as needed
- Responsible for wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries outside of area of expertise back to the appropriate person at the District
- Follow all District Safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times
- Responsible for ensuring all assigned equipment and tools are maintained and repaired as needed
- Must have regular and predictable attendance
- Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:
- Must have hands-on experience with a variety of general contracting skills including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, masonry, painting and/or fabricating
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work long hours, work weekends and be on-call as needed
- Must be able to provide own hand tools
- Must have basic mechanical skills and an ability to operate a variety of small equipment, tools and vehicles
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must be able to read and write in English
- Must have a valid Florida Class E drivers license with a clean driving record
- Must pass the CORE and Public Health exams within six months of hire and be able to maintain certification by earning appropriate CEU’s (continuing education units)

Physical Requirements: Moderate physical activity is required on a regular basis including lifting, reaching for, pulling and carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, squatting, walking, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing in and out of various equipment and vehicles and climbing up and down ladders. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, grip and operate a variety of hand tools and other equipment. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is frequently required.
Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is outdoors but may also include workshops, warehouses, office buildings, air plane hangars, laboratories, forklifts, off base locations, heliports and vehicles. Regular exposure to all types of weather, including high temperatures and humidity, is required as the position regularly works outside. Exposure to sun, rain, mud, and insects is likely. Occasional local travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when around helicopters, tanker trucks and a variety of motors, equipment and engines. Working with and around chemicals, which are stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions, is required occasionally. Working with or around fuel, fumes, paint and dirt is frequently required. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts is required.
