Who We Seek

Hispanic Federation seeks a Federal Advocacy and Network Engagement Specialist to connect with HF members around key issues affecting them from Federal systems. The Specialist will serve as a clearinghouse of information and manage calls to action, provide guidance around messaging for collective responses, and support with training around HF’s Federal advocacy priorities. The Specialist will also support communications by preparing drafts of issues for HF’s Communication Team and connect with HF’s Capacity Building as trainings are developed and implemented. The position will serve as a connector between work within Washington DC to HF’s offices, HF Headquarters, and members of the HF network.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of Federal processes, experience with capacity building of community-based organizations, and a commitment to Hispanic Federation’s mission. The position is hybrid and requires on-site presence at least 50% of the time, averaging 10 on-site days per month. Onsite dates include days working on events in third-party locations.

Reports to: Vice President for Federal Advocacy and Network Engagement

Location: Washington, DC

Responsibilities:

Work directly with the HF Network to understand the needs, capacity, and priorities of member organizations as they engage on federal policy asks, ensuring that federal team strategy reflects the realities of HF’s networks and the communities they serve.
Support the creation of toolkits and messaging guidance for social media and Members of Congress outreach for all HF Federal Calls to Action, equipping the network with ready-to-use materials that drive active, timely participation in each policy campaign in collaboration with HF’s Communications Team.
Conduct policy and data analysis research to strengthen HF's federal advocacy asks with state-specific data, in our region footprints, helping the team make a more compelling, evidence-based case to congressional offices and demonstrate the tangible impact of federal policy on Latino communities in each state.
Support the planning and execution of training sessions and help implement Hispanic Federation's advocacy training series in collaboration with HF’s Capacity Building Team.
Serve as a liaison between the federal advocacy team and HF's broader national teams, ensure public statements, social content, and network-facing materials speak with a consistent voice and reinforce Hispanic Federation's federal policy priorities and work closely with other departments implementing similar programs across HF.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, political science, or other relevant courses of study is strongly preferred.
Five (5) years of professional experience in federal policy and working with officials on Capitol Hill is required.
Capacity to work independently and keep organized in a fast-paced environment, manage several projects simultaneously, and adjust strategy to frequently changing demands.
Experience in community engagement and supporting capacity building for communities working in advocacy spaces is strongly desired.
Excellent communication skills with strong research and writing experience is required.
Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is an asset.
Maturity, professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise diplomacy are critical.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse and remote staff and partners, various issue coalitions, government officials across the political spectrum, and a range of partners regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstance.

Compensation and Benefits:

The position’s annual salary starts at $80,000-$90,000, and the salary is commensurate with experience.

Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with fully paid medical, dental, vision insurance for staff as of their first day with coverage included for partners or dependents; 403(B) retirement plan with eligibility for a company match of up to 6% after six (6) months; and access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter, health and dependent care benefits. Full-time regular employees are also provided with fifteen (15) vacation days and twelve (12) paid sick and wellness days.

HF is a hybrid work environment with the opportunity to work from home 50% of the time.
