Job Summary
The Report Specialist develops, validates, maintains, and distributes Epic reports, dashboards, and reporting tools that support clinical, operational, financial, quality, regulatory, and leadership decision-making. This role works with departments to define reporting needs, ensure data accuracy, support report distribution and user understanding, and strengthen data-informed decision-making, operational visibility, regulatory readiness, and performance improvement across the organization.
Essential Functional
The following functions are fundamental to the position and are required of all incumbents, with or without reasonable accommodation. These functions define the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
- Develops, maintains, validates, and distributes recurring Epic reports, dashboards, and reporting tools for clinical, operational, financial, quality, regulatory, compliance, grant, and leadership needs.
- Builds custom reports, KPI dashboards, and decision-support tools that help leaders monitor workflows, access, productivity, patient care, performance, and organizational priorities.
- Validates report accuracy by comparing outputs to source data, identifying discrepancies, documenting findings, and coordinating resolution with appropriate teams.
- Maintains reporting documentation, including definitions, data sources, refresh schedules, distribution lists, validation steps, and change history.
- Partners with clinical, operational, finance, quality, compliance, leadership, and IT teams to define reporting requirements and ensure reports reflect actual workflows and business needs.
- Supports leadership data requests by gathering requirements, producing reports, analyzing trends, identifying reporting gaps, and presenting data clearly for planning and improvement.
- Trains and supports users on report access, navigation, interpretation, troubleshooting, and appropriate use of dashboards and reporting tools.
- Manages secure and timely report distribution to authorized users and supports consistent, appropriate use of sensitive information.
- Supports data governance and reporting standards through consistent definitions, privacy protection, and secure handling of confidential data.
- Participates in Epic implementation, optimization, stabilization, reporting readiness, dashboard development, validation, user support, and post-go-live improvement activities.
Physical Requirments
- Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, data review, report development, and participation in meetings.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer keyboarding, mouse use, and report development activities.
- Frequent viewing of computer screens, spreadsheets, dashboards, and detailed data outputs.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift materials up to 25 pounds.
- Requires close visual acuity for reviewing reports, detecting discrepancies, validating data, and interpreting detailed information.
Required Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Public Health, or a related field required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in reporting, analytics, data management, healthcare operations, finance, quality improvement, or information systems support.
Experience developing, maintaining, validating, or distributing operational reports required.
Experience supporting healthcare reporting, quality reporting, regulatory reporting, business intelligence, or EHR reporting preferred.
Experience with Epic, OCHIN Epic, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, Crystal Reports, Reporting Workbench, Radar dashboards, SlicerDicer, or other reporting/analytics tools preferred.
Post-secondary education or experience that provides the expertise required to perform the functions of the position effectively may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and Certifications
Preferred certifications may include one or more of the following:
Epic reporting certification or proficiency
SQL, data analytics, or business intelligence certification
Microsoft Power BI or related analytics certification
Healthcare data analytics, quality improvement, or health information certification
