Position Overview
DAP Construction Management is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our federal construction projects. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project cost controls, and ensuring compliance with federal contract and accounting standards.
The ideal candidate has experience in construction accounting, understands job cost tracking, and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This role works closely with Project Managers, Executive Leadership, and Administrative staff to ensure accurate reporting and financial transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Job Cost Accounting
- Maintain accurate job cost records for multiple active construction projects.Track project budgets, committed costs, and actual expenses.Assist Project Managers with financial reporting, forecasting, and cost analysis.Reconcile project costs to general ledger accounts.Monitor project profitability and identify cost variances.
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries.Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity.Support internal financial reporting and management reporting.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
- Review and process subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices.Assist with progress billings and owner invoicing.Track retainage and ensure proper documentation.Reconcile AR aging and follow up on outstanding receivables.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Assist with audit preparation and documentation.Support federal contract reporting requirements.Ensure proper documentation and retention of financial records.Maintain compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).2–5 years of accounting experience (construction industry experience preferred).Strong understanding of job cost accounting.Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks or similar ERP systems).Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial analysis).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.High attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in federal or public works construction accounting.Familiarity with percentage-of-completion (WIP) accounting.Experience working with project management software (Procore, Primavera, etc.).CPA candidate or interest in pursuing CPA (preferred but not required).
Work Environment
- In-office position.Collaborative team environment.Supports multiple concurrent federal construction projects across the U.S.
