Job Description

Contract & Billing Operations Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contract & Billing Operations Manager based in United States.

This role sits at the intersection of contracts, sales, legal, and finance within a fast-moving, purpose-driven environment.
You’ll own the end-to-end contracting process for new business, renewals, and RFP responses with higher education partners.
As a key point of contact, you’ll guide agreements through negotiation, approval, execution, and renewal while balancing business needs and risk.
You’ll also support billing plans and collections, gaining visibility into how commercial terms translate into revenue outcomes.
The role offers significant autonomy, requiring sound judgment, strong organization, and a practical approach to resolving issues.
You’ll collaborate closely with Finance, Sales, and partner institutions to improve contract-to-cash processes and remove operational friction.
It’s an opportunity to make a tangible impact by building scalable workflows while supporting institutions that serve students and communities.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead contract negotiations for new sales agreements, renewals, and RFP responses with higher education partners, serving as the primary contact throughout the contracting lifecycle.
  • Manage contracts from drafting and redlining through internal approvals, execution, and renewal tracking, ensuring agreements move forward efficiently.
  • Review and respond to contract redlines promptly while balancing legal and commercial risk against deal velocity and established risk tolerances.
  • Make pragmatic, independent decisions on contract terms within defined guidelines, escalating complex or exceptional issues when appropriate.
  • Act as the liaison with institutional procurement and legal teams, helping partners navigate their internal review and approval processes.
  • Build and maintain accurate contract-tracking systems covering renewal dates, commercial terms, obligations, risk indicators, and other critical information.
  • Partner with Finance and the Controller to ensure contractual terms are properly reflected in billing, revenue recognition, and budgeting processes.
  • Support billing-plan setup and collections activities as needed, helping maintain accuracy from signed agreement through cash collection.
  • Maintain and continuously improve contract templates, negotiation playbooks, workflows, and operational documentation.
  • Identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks across the contract-to-cash process and recommend practical improvements that increase speed, accuracy, and scalability.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience managing and negotiating contracts end-to-end, ideally within B2B, SaaS, technology, or higher education environments.
  • Experience working with institutional procurement teams and/or legal review processes; direct higher education experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and report on a high volume of contracts and related data simultaneously.
  • Sound commercial judgment and confidence making practical decisions within established contractual and business risk parameters.
  • Exposure to billing, invoicing, collections, or related finance operations, or a strong interest in developing expertise in these areas.
  • Experience using Salesforce or a comparable CRM, particularly for contract tracking, reporting, and operational management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively with legal, procurement, finance, sales, and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple concurrent negotiations and deadlines.
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style focused on removing friction, solving problems, and improving processes rather than adding unnecessary complexity.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and know when an issue requires escalation.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary plus annual bonus.
  • Flexible paid time off (PTO).
  • Flexible hybrid/remote work options.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with a generous company match.
  • Financial planning resources.
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Company-paid disability insurance.
  • Collaborative and purpose-driven work environment.
