Job Description

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a faculty member to launch an independent laboratory within the Center for Immunometabolism. The research will define the cardiovascular and atherosclerosis risks of leucine, its deleterious effects on macrophages, and its broader impacts on fatty liver disease. Utilizing molecular, cell biological, immunology, animal physiology, and human studies, he will collaborate to discover novel mechanisms driving chronic metabolic diseases. Additionally, they will direct the Center's immune cell phenotyping core, leveraging their specialized flow cytometry expertise to advance team science across the broader University of Pittsburgh community. They will also engage in mentorship of research trainees and other lab personnel and students.

Qualified candidates must have the following :

- PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in Immunology, Metabolism, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.

- Proven track record of independent funding, specifically including a current NIH R01 grant as a Principal Investigator.

- Extensive research background in immunometabolism, macrophage biology, atherosclerosis, and metabolic diseases.

- Advanced technical expertise in molecular biology, animal physiology, human translational studies, and high-dimensional flow cytometry.

- Demonstrated leadership in directing scientific core facilities and managing advanced immune cell phenotyping operations.

- Strong history of team science, multi-investigator collaboration, and mentoring graduate trainees or postdoctoral fellows.

Applicants for Assistant Professor, tenure stream should have three or more years of experience in related scientific research; have obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure.
