Job Description

Position Summary

The HR Manager is responsible for executing and managing day-to-day human resources functions across multiple facets of HR operations, including recruiting, compensation, benefits, employee relations, compliance, and staff development. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources and serves as a working manager overseeing HR team members and assisting in multiple HR initiatives. The HR Manager is accountable for ensuring compliance with all applicable employment laws and company policies.

Duties and responsibilities

Recruiting: Manage the day-to-day recruiting function to support the sourcing and screening of candidates in a timely manner. Conduct initial screening of candidates and coordinate appropriate candidates for interviews with hiring managers. Utilize the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to post jobs externally, screen candidates, and maintain candidate status. Attend local job fairs and maintain relationships with universities. Work closely with HR leadership to understand and fulfill recruiting needs. Manage day-to-day recruiting follow-up and communication with candidates.

Hiring and Onboarding: Process employment offers and approve in HRIS. Ensures HR orientation is provided to new hires covering benefits, performance management systems, and company policies. Coordinate all onboarding logistics including equipment ordering, business cards, IT access setup, and first-day preparations. Follow up to ensure all onboarding items are completed and track onboarding metrics.

Offboarding: Determining best course of action with employee discipline, performance issues, analyzing risk, and making recommendations. Performing exit interviews and analyzing data. Communicating with employees and management, collecting company owned materials (laptops, etc.), communicating with IT vendor to terminate access, terminating benefits, and sending any post-employment instructions and communications. Maintain offboarding checklists and documentation.

Total Rewards: Administer benefits administration activities. Works with Senior Manager, HR and the benefits broker during open enrollment, coordinate benefits education sessions, and communicate benefits information to employees. Manage HRIS benefits data and reporting. Maintain employee information accuracy and provide updates to payroll for processing. Generate benefits reports and analytics. Support compensation planning, conduct salary reviews, and assist with market analysis and compensation recommendations.

Employee Relations & Performance Management: Support employee relations activities and resolve employee concerns and conflicts. Assist in performance management administration including tracking reviews and compensation planning. Work with managers on performance issues, coaching, and development. Support performance reviews and provide feedback. Handle employee relations issues and assist with investigations as directed.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and company policies. Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law requirements (EEOC, FMLA, ADA, etc.). Maintain personnel files and ensure EEO compliance. Handle routine personnel transactions and documentation. Assist with policy development and updates to employee handbook.

Culture and Staff Development: Responsible for planning and coordinating staff meetings, training sessions, and company events in collaboration with Senior Manager and leadership. Support presentation logistics, manage RSVP data, and help coordinate vendors and venue logistics. Deliver HR-related training sessions to employees and managers. Support team-building events and company celebrations. Coordinate manager training and employee development initiatives.

HR Programs and Administration: Maintain HRIS data integrity and ensure accurate employee records. Prepare HR metrics, reports, and analytics for management review. Handle ongoing HR program administration and provide support for organizational development activities.

Team Management: Manage assigned HR team members. Provide feedback, coaching, and performance management to direct reports. Delegate tasks and projects with clear objectives; track progress and ensure quality delivery of HR services. Support team member professional development and training opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in human resources, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial capacity
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team of HR professionals
  • Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements (EEOC, FMLA, ADA, etc.)
  • Proficiency with HRIS and human resource management software
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information professionally
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools to develop and report on important HR metrics
  • Experience executing recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding functions
  • Experience in benefits administration and total rewards programs
  • Experience in employee relations and performance management
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations (EEOC, FMLA, ADA, etc.)
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and creating metrics reports
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously and self-motivated

The ideal candidate must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. It’s very important that this person must be able to keep track of open projects, meet deadlines, and can communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
