Boat Assembly Supervisor in Chocowinity, North Carolina at Boaters World Manufacturing Group

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking an experienced Boat Assembly Supervisor to lead assembly operations at our boat manufacturing facility in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Boat Assembly Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of employees assembling and installing components, systems, hardware, seating, accessories, and equipment on boats throughout the production process. This position is accountable for maintaining production schedules, quality standards, employee performance, safety, training, and efficient workflow within the Assembly department.

This is a hands-on manufacturing leadership position. The ideal candidate is comfortable spending significant time on the production floor, understands how to troubleshoot assembly and production issues, and can effectively lead and develop a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Previous boat manufacturing experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with relevant supervisory experience in RV, automotive, powersports, durable-goods manufacturing, or other complex assembly environments may also be considered.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Production Leadership

• Supervise the daily activities of employees within the Boat Assembly department
• Assign work and coordinate staffing based on production schedules, priorities, and available resources
• Ensure established production goals, schedules, and quality expectations are met
• Maintain a strong presence on the production floor and provide hands-on support when needed
• Monitor workflow and make adjustments to reduce production delays and bottlenecks
• Coordinate the installation of hardware, seating, consoles, accessories, mechanical components, electrical systems, plumbing, rigging, and other boat components
• Ensure employees follow established work instructions, specifications, drawings, templates, and production processes
• Monitor labor utilization, productivity, and overall department performance
• Communicate production status, delays, material shortages, and other concerns to plant leadership
• Coordinate with other departments to maintain an efficient flow of boats through production

Employee Supervision & Development

• Lead, coach, train, and develop Assembly employees
• Provide clear daily expectations and work assignments
• Train new employees on assembly methods, tool use, quality requirements, and safety procedures
• Monitor employee performance, productivity, attendance, and quality of work
• Provide timely coaching and feedback to employees
• Recognize performance or conduct concerns and coordinate appropriate action with management and Human Resources
• Help identify employee training and development needs
• Promote teamwork, accountability, communication, and a positive production environment
• Ensure employees understand changes to production requirements, processes, or priorities

Quality & Process Control

• Ensure boats and components are assembled according to established quality standards and specifications
• Inspect work throughout the assembly process for fit, alignment, function, appearance, and overall workmanship
• Identify recurring defects, installation problems, or process concerns
• Work with Quality, Engineering, and Production leadership to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
• Ensure rework and quality concerns are addressed promptly
• Help reduce defects, rework, scrap, and production delays
• Verify completed work is ready to move to the next stage of production
• Support continuous improvement of assembly methods and processes

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

• Assist employees with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, plumbing, rigging, fitment, and other assembly concerns
• Review drawings, specifications, templates, and work instructions when resolving production issues
• Coordinate with Engineering when technical clarification or product changes are required
• Identify tooling, equipment, material, or process issues affecting production
• Help develop practical solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and consistency
• Support new product introductions and manufacturing process changes

Materials & Workflow

• Coordinate with Stockroom, Receiving, Inventory, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure required parts and materials are available
• Identify material shortages that could affect production and communicate them promptly
• Ensure parts, tools, and materials are properly staged and utilized
• Help minimize material waste, damage, and unnecessary rework
• Coordinate workflow with Lamination, Cut & Grind, Gelcoat Repair, Upholstery, Woodshop, Metal Fabrication, Quality, Final Finish, and other production areas as required

Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized Assembly department
• Ensure employees follow all company safety procedures and properly use required PPE
• Conduct or participate in safety meetings, training, inspections, and incident investigations as required
• Identify unsafe conditions or work practices and take immediate corrective action
• Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and maintained appropriately
• Immediately report injuries, equipment concerns, hazards, or significant safety issues
• Reinforce company environmental, health, safety, quality, and production requirements throughout the department

• Previous supervisory, team leadership, or production leadership experience within a manufacturing or assembly environment
• Strong hands-on knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
• Experience supervising hourly production employees
• Ability to plan work, assign responsibilities, and maintain production schedules
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Experience using and supervising the use of hand and power tools
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, measurements, drawings, templates, and production specifications
• Experience managing employee performance, attendance, training, and productivity
• Strong understanding of manufacturing quality and safety expectations
• Ability to identify production problems and implement practical solutions
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, engineers, quality personnel, and plant leadership
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Chocowinity, North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous boat or marine manufacturing supervisory experience
• Experience supervising boat assembly, rigging, final assembly, or similar production operations
• Experience with marine mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and rigging systems
• Experience in automotive, RV, powersports, or other complex durable-goods assembly environments
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or similar production-improvement methods
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing production systems
• Experience supporting new-product introductions or manufacturing ramp-ups
• Previous experience developing and training production employees

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed primarily in an active boat manufacturing environment
• Regular and significant production-floor presence is required
• Regular exposure to manufacturing noise, dust, fiberglass/composite materials, chemicals, odors, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in and around boats and production equipment
• Ability to safely demonstrate the use of hand and power tools as needed
• Ability to lift, carry, position, and move materials or components as required by the position
• Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
• Ability to adjust working hours as needed to support production schedules, multiple shifts, employee issues, or other operational requirements
