We are seeking an experienced Sprinter / Diesel Technician to join our Mercedes-Benz service team. This position is focused on the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans and is ideal for a technician with a strong background in diesel repair and diagnostics.
While previous Mercedes-Benz or Sprinter experience is highly desirable, it is not required. We are particularly interested in technicians with proven diesel diagnostic and repair experience from commercial truck, fleet, European automotive, or other professional service environments.
The right candidate will be comfortable diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, emissions, and drivability concerns and performing repairs ranging from routine maintenance to major engine, drivetrain, and chassis work.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair Mercedes-Benz Sprinter diesel and gasoline vehicles using manufacturer procedures, diagnostic equipment, and technical information.
- Diagnose diesel engine performance, drivability, starting, fuel system, turbocharger, and emissions-related concerns.
- Diagnose and repair diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems, including DEF/SCR, DPF, EGR, NOx monitoring, and related components.
- Perform mechanical repairs including engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel systems, brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and related components.
- Diagnose electrical and electronic concerns using scan tools, wiring diagrams, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance including oil and filter services, fuel filters, transmission services, brake services, and other manufacturer-required maintenance.
- Use Mercedes-Benz diagnostic software and equipment to accurately identify vehicle faults and follow manufacturer test procedures.
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and identify safety, maintenance, and repair needs.
- Perform road tests as necessary to verify customer concerns and confirm completed repairs.
- Complete warranty and recall repairs in accordance with Mercedes-Benz procedures and documentation requirements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of diagnostic findings, cause of failure, repairs performed, parts used, and technician time.
- Communicate effectively with Team Leaders and Service Advisors regarding diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, additional work needed and expected completion times.
- Notify appropriate service personnel promptly when additional diagnosis, parts, authorization, or time is required to complete a repair.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all dealership, manufacturer, state, and federal safety and environmental requirements.
- Maintain required Mercedes-Benz training and certifications following employment.
- Assist in the development of less-experienced technicians and apprentices when appropriate.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; automotive or diesel technical training preferred.
- Professional diesel repair and diagnostic experience strongly preferred.
- Experience diagnosing diesel engine performance, fuel, emissions, electrical, or drivability concerns.
- Experience with Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz, European vehicles, medium-duty trucks, commercial vehicles, or fleet maintenance is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs beyond routine maintenance, including engine, drivetrain, suspension, brake, and emissions-system repairs.
- Strong electrical diagnostic skills and ability to interpret wiring diagrams and technical service information.
- Proficiency with professional diagnostic scan tools and test equipment.
- Mercedes-Benz/XENTRY diagnostic experience is preferred but not required.
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a methodical approach to diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Ability to accurately document diagnostic findings and completed repairs.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced professional dealership environment while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with Team Leaders, Service Advisors, Parts personnel, and other technicians.
- Ability to drive vehicles equipped with automatic and manual transmissions.
- Ability to work some Saturdays.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
