Job Description

Metal Slitter / Set-Up Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Metal Slitter / Set-Up Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring precision metal slitting equipment used to convert large coils of metal into narrower strips that meet customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with machine setup, quality inspections, material handling, and manufacturing safety procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to work with advanced equipment in a fast-paced production environment while contributing to the production of high-quality metal products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Set up and operate precision metal slitting equipment to meet production schedules and customer requirements.Perform complete machine setups, including installation and adjustment of knives, spacers, shims, stripper rings, tooling, and clearance settings.Operate and monitor Traverse Winders, Loop Systems, Edgers, Rewinders, Cut-to-Length equipment, and other related machinery.Process a variety of materials including copper, brass, aluminum, tin-plated, and nickel-plated metals.Work with material thicknesses ranging from 0.004" to 0.090" while maintaining strict quality standards.Read and interpret production work orders, setup sheets, specifications, and engineering drawings.Utilize computer-generated setup sheets and modern shimless tooling systems.Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to ensure products meet dimensional and quality requirements.Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures to verify specifications.Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency, quality, and productivity.Troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime.Safely handle raw materials, finished products, and tooling using forklifts and other material handling equipment.Complete production records and maintain accurate documentation.Follow all plant safety rules, quality standards, and housekeeping requirements.Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and assist with preventive maintenance activities.Required Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience in slitting, metal processing, or a related production environment.Experience setting up and operating precision slitting equipment or similar manufacturing machinery.Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.Ability to read and interpret work orders, setup sheets, and production specifications.Knowledge of quality inspection procedures and precision measuring instruments, including calipers and micrometers.Basic math skills, including calculations involving measurements, tolerances, and material quantities.Understanding of manufacturing processes and metal processing operations.Forklift experience and the ability to safely handle materials in a manufacturing environment.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Preferred Qualifications

Experience with copper, brass, aluminum, tin-plated, or nickel-plated materials.Experience using shimless tooling systems and computer-generated setup sheets.Overhead crane experience.Forklift certification.Skills and Competencies

This position is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment, moving machinery, noise, and varying temperatures. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
