Department Overview

The OHSU Division of Infectious Diseases is a group of academic physicians and allied health professionals specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases and related disorders. The Division is a leader in clinical medicine, research and education, with a focus on providing outstanding patient care and growth opportunities for all faculty and staff.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical (80%): You will work as a specialist in Infectious Diseases (ID) within the Department of Medicine, with clinical duties as assigned by the Division Head. Your clinical responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient service. The proportion of service time spent in each of these areas may vary depending on available staffing within the Division. You should anticipate rotating your service time between four inpatient general ID consultation services – three OHSU services and a separate Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) service - for a total of 16-20 weeks per year, which includes day, night and weekend coverage. Inpatient consult rotations between the OHSU and HMC services will not overlap. Outpatient clinical service will be 2-3 half-day clinics per week while not attending on the inpatient service. Outpatient clinical service may be divided between clinics at OHSU and HMC. You will also be expected to take your fair share of calls, as assigned, with other faculty through the shared coverage of OHSU’s consult line, which provides telephone access to OHSU faculty by practitioners throughout Oregon and the surrounding area.

Education and scholarly activities (20%): OHSU is a teaching facility and you will be expected to teach medical students, residents, and ID fellows in the clinical setting, as part of your Clinical duties above, as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year. You may receive teaching assignments from the Division Head, Department, or School of Medicine. You will be expected to develop scholarly activities, to a degree commensurate with the provided level of support, in your area(s) of expertise and interest.

Leadership, administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Required Qualifications
  • Infectious Diseases (ID) board certified or qualified to take exams
  • Experienced MD in Infectious Diseases, with completed ID Fellowship
