Description:
- The Baton Rouge Clinic, AMC is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and clinically skilled Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Urgent Care Clinic. The CMA/LPN will provide high-quality clinical care and support to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and other urgent medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist physicians with examinations and treatments.
- Obtain patient histories, vital signs, and chief complaints.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Perform routine clinical testing and point-of-care testing as directed.
- Administer medications and injections with appropriate physician authorization.
- Assist with wound care, dressing changes, splinting, and other urgent-care procedures.
- Perform EKGs and other diagnostic testing as assigned.
- Complete medication prior authorizations and pre-certifications.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
- Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Perform various clinical and clerical duties to support daily urgent-care operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides patient care as a member of the health care team within scope of license.
- Follows nursing policies, procedures, and protocols and implements appropriately in the care of adult and pediatric patients.
- Provides instructions to patients regarding treatment plan, medications and follow-up.
- Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team including accurate documentation in patient medical records.
- Greeting patients with a smile, completion of registration forms, and gives instructions
- Interview patients while recording and updating medical information (history, chief complaint) and medications etc. into the myChart
- Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests
- Provides patient education with regards to medications and instructions set forth by the provider to manage their health
- Triages emergency situations
- Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization
- Refill requests and Prior Authorizations for medications
Education:
- Successfully complete the Board-Approved Practical Nursing (LPN) Program, Successfully pass the NCLEX-PN.
Licenses/Certifications (if applicable):
- Current, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Louisiana
- Current Certified Medical Assistant Certification (NRCMA, CCMA, CMA, RMA)
Experience:
- Previous experience in an urgent care, emergency department, physician office, or outpatient medical setting preferred.
- Experience with patient triage, medication administration, injections, specimen collection, EKGs, wound care, and point-of-care testing preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment with multiple patients and competing priorities preferred.
- Familiarity with MyChart or similar electronic medical record systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to perform patient care activities and operate standard medical equipment.
- Ability to use computers and standard office equipment.
