Childcare Teacher Aide

Location: Muriel Humphrey Childcare Center (MHCC) – Woodbridge, VA 22193
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Split Shift: 6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. is seeking a dependable, caring, and energetic Childcare Teacher Aide to join our team at the Muriel Humphrey Childcare Center (MHCC) in Woodbridge, Virginia.

The Childcare Teacher Aide assists classroom teachers in providing a safe, nurturing, structured, and engaging environment for children. This position supports daily classroom activities, supervision, routines, and the individual needs of children while promoting their social, emotional, physical, and developmental growth.

This position has a split-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. Candidates must be available to work both portions of the scheduled shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher with the supervision and care of children throughout the program day.
  • Maintain active supervision and ensure children are accounted for at all times.
  • Assist with age-appropriate educational, recreational, and developmental activities.
  • Support children with daily routines, including arrival, departure, meals, snacks, toileting, hygiene, and transitions.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Interact with children in a positive, patient, respectful, and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Assist with implementing classroom activities and individualized supports as directed.
  • Observe children and promptly communicate concerns regarding health, safety, behavior, or development to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all health, safety, emergency, and child supervision procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Participate in required orientation, training, staff meetings, and professional development.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures and applicable Virginia childcare licensing requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a childcare, preschool, school, camp, recreation, or similar setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with children with developmental or intellectual disabilities is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate patience, dependability, good judgment, and the ability to interact positively with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Must be able to meet all applicable Virginia childcare licensing and background check requirements.
  • Must successfully complete all required pre-employment and ongoing training.
