The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

At RWJBarnabas Health, our behavioral health support teams operate at the heart of a compassionate, multidisciplinary environment dedicated to transforming the patient experience. Joining our team means becoming part of a premier academic healthcare network that values teamwork, excellence, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, safe clinical services across our communities. We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Clinician to provide comprehensive therapeutic interventions, psychosocial assessments, and clinical care planning. If you are an empathetic professional eager to combine evidence-based therapy with structured discharge planning, we invite you to build a rewarding career on our psychiatric care team.

A Typical Day
As a Mental Health Clinician within our adult psychiatric services, a typical day might include the following:

  • Clinical Assessment & Intake: Assessing patient needs through clinical interviews, thorough chart/history reviews, and psychosocial data sources to formulate initial and subsequently revised treatment plans.
  • Advanced Psychotherapeutic Interventions: Formulating and executing crisis-oriented individual treatment, cognitive behavioral interventions, and specialized marital, parental, family, or group therapies geared toward achieving identified patient goals.
  • Multidisciplinary Care Planning: Collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team during treatment huddles to review assessment data, interpret diagnostic instruments, and modify clinical treatment approaches accordingly.
  • Discharge Navigation & Transfers: Participating in the development of discharge plans during team meetings, coordinating hospital-to-hospital transfers, and partnering with external community agencies to ensure a seamless post-acute continuity of care.
  • Family Support & Psychoeducation: Interpreting the nature of illnesses and prescribed courses of treatment to patients and families, holding family conferences, and delivering continuing education programming to patient support systems.
  • Clinical Documentation Excellence: Documenting relevant daily data regarding assessments, treatments, outcomes, after-care, and discharge metrics in strict accordance with specified electronic medical record standards.

This Role Might Be For You If:

  • You are deeply passionate about creating a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for psychiatric patients and their families.
  • You excel under pressure, maintain an exceptional professional demeanor, and stay highly current on acute crisis intervention and psychiatric de-escalation practices.
  • You take operational pride in documentation excellence, ensuring progress notes and treatment milestones are thoroughly logged in compliance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
  • You thrive in a highly collaborative team framework alongside nurses, physicians, program directors, and supportive social service agencies.
  • You believe that true clinical healing, short length-of-stay optimization, and long-term stabilization are strengthened through empathy, open communication, and shared clinical programming.

To Be Considered:

  • Education: Minimum of a Master’s Degree (MA/MS/MSW) in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related human services behavioral health field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience: Prior post-graduate clinical program experience or direct therapeutic practice within a behavioral health, substance abuse, or psychiatric treatment setting is preferred.
