This individual will serve as a hands-on senior tax professional, managing significant client relationships, preparing and reviewing complex returns, providing higher-level tax planning, and serving as a senior technical resource within the practice.

The Senior Tax Manager will mentor members of the tax team, help resolve complex tax matters, and contribute to the overall quality and efficiency of the practice. The ability to perform final review and sign tax returns is preferred but not required and will depend on professional credentials and firm authorization.

As part of a small, collaborative practice, this role remains directly involved in tax preparation and client work and is expected to step in wherever needed to support clients and the team.

  • When appropriately credentialed and authorized by Grimes S&C Tax Advisors, perform final review and sign tax returns and filings in accordance with firm policies and applicable requirements.
  • Provide proactive, higher-level tax planning and advisory services for complex client situations.
  • Research and interpret complex federal, state, and local tax laws and developments and serve as a senior technical resource to the team.
  • Assist with significant tax notices, audits, inquiries, and correspondence with taxing authorities.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to Tax Managers, Senior Tax Accountants, and Tax Accountants.
  • Support client retention, identify opportunities for expanded services and business development, collaborate across Grimes S&C Tax Advisors and Grimes & Company Wealth Management, improve internal processes, and remain hands-on with tax preparation as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Generally 10-15 years of progressive tax experience, including significant experience with complex tax preparation, review, planning, and client management.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing the work of other tax professionals and resolving complex technical tax matters.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations and sound professional judgment.
  • Proven ability to manage significant client relationships and explain complex tax matters clearly and professionally.
  • Experience mentoring and developing tax professionals in a collaborative environment.
  • CPA, EA, or other relevant professional credential strongly preferred; ability to act as an authorized signer is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent analytical, research, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with CCH Axcess and QuickBooks preferred; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Benefits

  • 401(k) retirement plan with 6% match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Summer Fridays Off
