Job Description

Chief Marketing Officer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chief Marketing Officer based in the United States.

As Chief Marketing Officer, you will lead the marketing strategy and execution for a global membership, education, events, and community business serving go-to-market (GTM) professionals. You will oversee product marketing, lifecycle marketing, performance marketing, brand and content, digital experience, and sales enablement, with direct accountability for driving new bookings and renewals. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will translate business objectives into clear priorities, budgets, and measurable growth initiatives. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic decision-making with practical execution, team development, and cross-functional collaboration. You will optimize acquisition and retention, strengthen positioning across B2C and B2B offerings, and leverage AI-powered workflows to improve marketing efficiency and performance. The ideal candidate is a commercially minded marketing leader who can build high-performing teams, make disciplined investment decisions, and deliver measurable business outcomes in a flexible, remote-friendly environment.

Accountabilities:

You will own the overall marketing strategy, budget, and execution, ensuring that marketing initiatives directly contribute to new customer acquisition, renewal revenue, and growth across the organization's membership, education, events, and business offerings.

  • Marketing Strategy and Executive Leadership: Translate business objectives into marketing priorities, initiatives, performance metrics, and resource plans. Partner with executive leadership to establish priorities across products, audiences, and markets, and secure alignment on the decisions needed to achieve business goals.

  • Cross-Functional Accountability: Hold executive peers accountable for agreed objectives and commitments. Identify dependencies, address competing priorities, and ensure decisions reflect the team's capacity and business needs.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop teams across product marketing, lifecycle marketing, performance marketing, and sales enablement. Establish clear responsibilities, provide constructive feedback, recognize results, and recommend hiring or agency support when appropriate.

  • Performance Measurement and Reporting: Establish regular performance reviews with leadership, Finance, and Revenue Operations (RevOps). Maintain consistent definitions of bookings and dashboards that distinguish cash collected from pipeline and unpaid commitments.

  • Growth Strategy and Budget Management: Own the marketing plan and budget against agreed bookings targets, accounting for new membership acquisition, renewals, and B2B revenue. Allocate resources based on cash bookings, customer acquisition costs, retention, and payback periods.

  • Performance Marketing: Direct paid media, search engine optimization (SEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), and event acquisition initiatives. Evaluate campaigns using hands-on expertise, challenge agency recommendations when necessary, and optimize performance against commercial objectives.

  • Channel and Geographic Expansion: Test new acquisition channels for reaching GTM professionals globally. Establish clear criteria for scaling, revising, or discontinuing investments, aligned with geographic priorities and the organization's Chapter model.

  • AI and Marketing Operations: Identify opportunities to deploy AI agents and automated workflows for content production, audience segmentation, reporting, lead scoring, and other marketing processes. Establish measurable success criteria and ensure responsible adoption, clear ownership, and appropriate quality control.

  • Lifecycle Marketing and Retention: Lead programs that improve member activation, engagement, upgrades, and renewals. Use behavioral insights and cohort performance to guide decisions and strengthen recurring revenue.

  • Member Engagement and Renewal Programs: Collaborate with Member Success and program teams on onboarding, nurture campaigns, milestone communications, renewal outreach, and member handoffs. Develop referral, upgrade, and win-back initiatives informed by member feedback and retention barriers.

  • Lead Nurturing and Conversion: Own conversion-focused lifecycle journeys that help interested GTM professionals progress from initial engagement to purchasing memberships, courses, and other offerings.

  • Product Marketing and Positioning: Lead product marketing and conversion rate optimization (CRO) across B2C and B2B offerings. Define target audiences, positioning, value propositions, and the reasons customers should purchase or renew.

  • Go-to-Market Planning: Clarify how membership, education, events, and team solutions fit together. Develop launch plans for courses sold independently and through membership, coordinating timing and customer transitions with learning teams.

  • B2B Marketing: Own the strategy and execution for marketing courses sold in bulk to businesses, including buyer messaging, demand generation, and support for team and company purchases. Work with Sales to improve pipeline quality and conversion into cash bookings.

  • Sales Enablement and Conversion: Lead the team responsible for direct follow-up with prospective members near the end of their decision-making process. Establish lead prioritization, outreach standards, and handoffs while equipping the team with effective messaging, customer proof points, and objection-handling guidance.

  • Sales Playbooks and Pricing: Oversee Synapsa and 1Mind playbooks and responses to maintain consistent messaging and quality. Track conversion into paid bookings and establish pricing and discounting guidelines with leadership and Finance.

  • Brand and Communications: Maintain consistent brand positioning across the website, social media, events, and content. Oversee public relations, thought leadership, and storytelling that demonstrates member outcomes, collaborating with learning and community teams to highlight customer success.

  • Executive Thought Leadership: Define the role of community content and executive thought leadership, including the executive's personal brand, within the broader marketing strategy.

  • First 90-Day Priorities: Assess performance across acquisition, renewals, course-led membership purchases, and B2B revenue. Align bookings targets, budget, and decision-making responsibilities with leadership and Finance, address immediate conversion and renewal gaps, and initiate measurable AI and process improvements.

  • First-Year Results: Deliver against agreed bookings targets, improve acquisition efficiency and paid conversion, strengthen lifecycle-driven renewals, clarify positioning across offerings, develop a confident and accountable marketing team, and demonstrate measurable returns from AI and workflow improvements.

Requirements:

You are an experienced marketing executive with a strong commercial mindset, a proven record of driving revenue, and the ability to combine strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You can develop managers, influence executive-level decisions, use data to guide investment, and build scalable acquisition and retention programs.

  • Senior Marketing Leadership: Significant experience leading marketing strategy, budgets, teams, and commercial results, ideally within membership, community, subscription, or recurring-revenue businesses.

  • Executive-Level Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to set priorities with senior leadership, challenge assumptions constructively, resolve competing demands, and secure the decisions and resources required to deliver results.

  • People Leadership: Proven ability to develop managers, build team confidence, clarify ownership, improve working practices, and strengthen performance through effective feedback and leadership.

  • Performance Marketing Expertise: Direct experience building and managing acquisition programs across paid media, SEO, or other performance channels. Ability to evaluate campaign performance, manage agencies or contractors, and make data-driven investment decisions.

  • Growth and Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of acquisition economics, customer acquisition costs, retention, payback periods, pricing, discounting, and budget management.

  • Bookings and Revenue Analytics: Ability to interpret commercial performance accurately, distinguish collected cash from pipeline or unpaid commitments, and establish reliable reporting that supports business decisions.

  • Product Marketing: Proven experience defining audience segments, developing product positioning and value propositions, planning launches, and communicating the relationships between multiple products or offerings.

  • Lifecycle Marketing: Demonstrated success building programs for activation, engagement, upgrades, renewal, referrals, and win-back, with measurable improvements in retention and revenue.

  • Sales Enablement and Conversion: Experience improving lead prioritization, nurture, direct outreach, sales handoffs, objection handling, and conversion into paid customers.

  • Content and Communications: Strong editorial judgment and the ability to guide brand messaging, thought leadership, public relations, digital experiences, and customer success storytelling.

  • AI and Automation: Practical experience building or deploying AI agents and marketing workflows. Ability to explain the tools used, demonstrate measurable improvements in cost, output, efficiency, or performance, and ensure appropriate human oversight of customer-facing work.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Ability to collaborate effectively with Finance, RevOps, Sales, Member Success, program teams, and executive leadership to align marketing execution with company-wide goals.

  • Player-Coach Mindset: Willingness and ability to move between strategic leadership and hands-on execution, especially when working with a lean team or addressing urgent business needs.

  • Preferred Experience: Familiarity with event marketing, community-driven growth, and storytelling for a global business serving go-to-market professionals.

Benefits:

  • Annual Compensation: Competitive salary ranging from $250,000 to $275,000.

  • Performance Bonus: Bonus tied primarily to agreed bookings targets and commercial performance.

  • Equity Compensation: Stock options in a profitable, mission-driven company.

  • Healthcare: Comprehensive health benefits.

  • Professional Development: Dedicated budget for professional learning and career development.

  • Flexible Work Environment: Remote-friendly working arrangements.

  • Membership and Education: Access to membership benefits and educational offerings.
