The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is seeking Head Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and Floaters for infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms. Staff work collaboratively as a teaching team to provide safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implements the developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive curriculum and lesson plans provided by program leadership. Classroom staff are not responsible for creating their own lesson plans.
  • Reviews assigned plans in advance, prepares materials and learning centers, and carries out planned individual and group experiences.
  • Provides active supervision and maintains required ratios, head counts, and safe transitions.
  • Observes and documents children's development, maintains required records, and shares concerns or referral recommendations with the Director.
  • Maintains respectful communication with families and accurately communicates center policies, referring questions to program leadership.
  • Carries out classroom routines and schedules in cooperation with teaching-team members.
  • Maintains health, sanitation, and safety standards in accordance with licensing requirements and center policy.
  • Builds warm relationships with children and uses developmentally appropriate guidance practices consistent with NAEYC standards.
  • Collaborates with coworkers, supports classroom coverage, and participates in required meetings and trainings.
  • Works respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and demonstrates a commitment to racial, gender, and socioeconomic equity.
  • Follows Volunteer Services procedures when applicable and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications for Head Teachers:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Early childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant early childhood experience and/or training. Age-group-specific experience is preferred for infant and toddler assignments.
  • Licensing and Certifications: Must meet current New York State licensing requirements and complete all required clearances, medical documentation, screenings, and trainings.

Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Teachers and Floaters:

  • Education: Assistant Teachers must have at least an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Floaters must meet the education and credential requirements applicable to their assigned responsibilities.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant early childhood experience and/or training.
  • Licensing and Certifications: Must meet current New York State licensing requirements and complete all required clearances, medical documentation, screenings, and trainings.

Compensation: $18.00-$24.95 per hour (depending on position, experience, and qualifications)

Schedules:

  • Head Teacher (infant, toddler, or preschool): 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
  • Assistant Teacher/Floater (infant, toddler, or preschool): 8:30 AM-5:30 PM or 12:00 PM-6:00 PM, based on classroom and coverage needs

Benefits: A full benefits package is available to eligible employees scheduled for 30 or more hours per week.
