Description:

The Custodian performs general cleaning and upkeep of facility and grounds as assigned. This position is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing in assigned areas. The custodian will also perform routine maintenance as assigned and assist with maintenance jobs requiring more than 1 person and event set up and clean up.

REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time Hourly

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Responsible for cleanliness in assigned areas (classrooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, pool areas, fitness areas, gymnasium, etc) including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows, refrigerators, toilets, and showers, emptying trash, and recycling. Restock supplies as needed include soap, paper towels, tissues, anti-bacterial cleansers, etc.

· Perform disinfecting and sanitizing in assigned areas as required by the WCC, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the local Board of Health.

· Conduct routine maintenance as needed.

· Assist with setups and takedowns for meetings, events, and rentals.

· Assist with facility shutdowns completing assigned responsibilities.

· Operate small power equipment, floor scrubbers, polishers, carpet shampooers, snow blowers, lawn equipment, and hand tools.

· Learn on the job skills.

· Assist in maintenance jobs requiring more than 1 person.

· Record and report all needed repairs including customer and staff concerns.

· Prioritize activities on a daily and/or weekly basis with direct supervisor. Follow and complete cleaning/maintenance daily/weekly schedule provided by supervisor.

· Ensure all activities are done within the rules and regulations of our licensed programs including childcare and camp.

· Maintain grounds seasonally including mowing, weeding, leaf pick up, shoveling and snow blowing.

· Ensure the safety and security of the WCC building/property by identifying potential hazards to supervisor and completing daily security checks during closing.

· Answer customer questions or if cannot, refer them to the Member Services Desk

· Maintain accurate time and attendance online and submit in timely manner

· Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as mandated by your supervisor.

Requirements:

· Must be at least 18 years of age

· Reliable transportation

· Six months or more of related experience, preferred

· Ability to work independently

· Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents

· Ability to report and record maintenance requests

· Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment

· Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment

· Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use. Will be trained.

· Strong customer service skills with good written and oral communication skills to work positively with different populations, in groups and individually

· Ability to meet the needs of a flexible schedule, holidays may be required

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

· Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties, including operating cleaning and maintenance-related machines.
  • Ability to lift, with control, a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment, as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach or back.
  • Ability to stand frequently; walk; climb or balance; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • Ability to be exposed to moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
