Description:

Building Support

NATURE OF WORK:

Provide direct support for building events and is responsible for the operation of plumbing, fire alarm system, emergency power, electrical systems and other specialized equipment and system during these events.

SUPERVISION:

Duties are performed with general supervision. Reports to the Engineering Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

· Assist with basic plumbing tasks, maintaining the functioning operation for bathroom appliances, toilets and hand-washing sinks.

· Change temperatures and create daily event schedules for our HVAC units using our building automation system.

· Assist with set up and tear down of event materials which includes tables, chairs, extension cords, carts, easels, plug strips, water fills etc. for events, conventions, trade and consumer shows, construction, etc.

· Available during events to assist the client or Event Manager with anything that might be needed, this includes all the “small stuff” i.e., lowering/raising the blinds in the exhibit halls, putting out fire extinguishers for tradeshows, filling up water barrels for volleyball nets, etc.

· Operates a Zamboni or similar machine and other ice making equipment as needed along with making and painting ice.

· Responsible for creating work orders for all building issues in the work order system.

· Point of contact for fire panel and emergency situation guidelines, to be able to assist security.

· Responsible for Monthly visual fire extinguisher inspections and air filter replacement for HVAC units.

· Assist Facilities and Operations department when needed.

· Assist the Electrician with needed with projects.

· Assist with part runs for supplies as needed.

· Involves both inside and outside contacts to obtain or supply factual information under supervisor approval.

· Performs periodic inspections of machinery and equipment, diagnoses trouble, directs or effects, repair, and checks work performed.

· May assist in snow and ice removal, as necessary.

· May be required to work on a shift basis or work long or unusual hours.

· Promotes both internal and external guest services, including fellow employees, contract service providers, event planners and event attendees.

· Work nights, weekends and holidays as required.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Exceptional customer service skills required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in facilities maintenance preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, equipment, and materials normally
  • used in HVAC, refrigeration and auxiliary equipment operation and maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions including those involved.
  • with confined spaces.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to anticipate and react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees,
  • supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry outwritten and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to supervise the work of skilled and unskilled employees. Skill in the use and care of the
  • tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads and employees.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

SALARY AND STATUS:

$18.21 - $26.00 hour Non-Exempt; Union-IBEW
