Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Environmental Program Intern is a high school student who has participated in the Perspectives of Earth - Team Mentorship & Internship (PETM) training program in Spring 2026 at the McAuliffe Center. The intern uses effective ways to conduct research and design solutions to community environmental challenges by working with other high school students as part of a team with other Environmental Program Interns; and uses evidence-based arguments to promote actual changes that support the environmental well-being of the local target community. This internship is part of the McAuliffe Center's PETM program.
During the program, the Environmental Program High School Intern will:
- Investigate environmental challenges with social implications for the local target community.
- Choose an environmental challenge to address at a local level.
- Collaborate with peers and STEM professionals on a team project.
- Practice STEM skills and approaches used in a professional environment.
- Develop an understanding of global environmental issues and how global needs relate to the local community.
- Design solutions to local environmental challenges.
- Share findings with peers, mentors, teachers, family, and community members.
- Communicate effectively with public officials about how to use the recommended solution in the community.
Examples of Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend weekly team meetings
- Research subject matter
- Review collected data for quality and relevance
- Follow protocols for data sharing
- Report weekly to the program manager
- Attend and participate in virtual and in-person meetings with subject matter experts
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant eligibility requires the high school student to have completed participation in the Spring 2026 PETM program at the McAuliffe Center.
- Strong research skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Committed to a high standard of inclusive practice
- Committed to serving the needs of a diverse range of audiences representing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and abilities
- Successful candidates under the age of 18 are required to obtain a youth work permit
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-benefited, paid internship position. Rate is $15/hour.
There is a limited number of intern positions available.
Schedule and Time Commitment: Monday, June 22, 2026 through Friday, July 24, 2026. The regular schedule is Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30am-4:00pm plus Friday, July 24, 2025 (hours TBD) for a total of 126 hours. Attendance during July is mandatory.
