Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the ECDC Assistant Director and in accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, the Allison Cassens Early Childhood Development Center Custodial Staff Member will maintain a clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for children, families, staff, and visitors. The Custodial Staff Member will perform daily cleaning and sanitation duties throughout the ECDC facility; assist in maintaining classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces; ensure compliance with YMCA standards and licensing regulations; and provide a quality experience to children and families that reflects the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas in accordance with YMCA standards, DCFS regulations, and childcare licensing requirements.
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, trash removal, and restocking supplies.
- Ensure the facility consistently meets health, safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards required by DCFS licensing inspections and YMCA policies.
- Promptly identify and report maintenance, repair, or safety concerns to the Assistant Director to help maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of classrooms, meetings, and special events as needed.
- Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify the Assistant Director when supplies need to be reordered.
- Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to health, safety, emergency response, infection control, and confidentiality.
- Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, staff, and visitors while modeling YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred, especially in a childcare, school, or community setting.
- Ability to understand and follow DCFS regulations, YMCA policies, and childcare licensing standards related to cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including bending, standing, walking, and climbing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire
- Must pass all required background checks and complete all required trainings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient mobility to plan, lead and participate in activities, and perform additional duties of the position.
- Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel.
- Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and a stress in a positive manner
