Position Description
The Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University invite applications for a tenure track position with a rank of Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding candidates working in the field of computational neuroscience, broadly defined, whose work will advance the mission of both institutions, and who would be a member of both institutions’ faculty and establish a physical laboratory research program at both institutes. We seek to recruit a computational researcher with expertise in machine learning and mathematical modelling whose work addresses theoretical and computational topics in neuroscience and impacts our understanding of both natural and artificial intelligence. The applicant’s research may also include an experimental program component to be housed on the HMS campus. This position offers outstanding scholarly and scientific resources in a collegial and collaborative department with strong ties to related departments throughout Harvard University, the Harvard-affiliated teaching hospitals, and the Boston neuroscience and machine learning communities. The position provides the opportunity to join a growing coalition of researchers across the Harvard ecosystem interested in the organization and function of neural circuits using computational approaches. The position also offers the opportunity to teach exceptional graduate and medical students with strong interests in neuroscience, machine learning, and related fields. Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent graduate degree. Only candidates applying for their first faculty position will be considered.

Applicants should send a cover letter, C.V., and a three-page Statement of Research (1-page summary of research contributions and 2-page description of plans for future work) by Friday, November 3, 2026.

Applicants should also include at least one representative publication from any period of their research career, with a maximum of three publications (or preprints). Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendations by the deadline.

Letters can be submitted via the application portal or can be sent directly to neuro_facultysearch@hms.harvard.edu with the name of the applicant in the subject line.
