Job Description

Registered Nurse (RN) Radiation Oncology (B2 Rad/Onc)

13-Week Contract | Full-Time Days | Bethesda, Maryland

We are seeking one experienced Registered Nurse to provide patient-centered care in the B2 Radiation Oncology unit at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday

  • 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • 40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth

  • Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution

  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN

  • At least two years of radiation oncology or ambulatory-care nursing experience

  • Current Basic Life Support certification

  • Demonstrated competency in starting peripheral IVs, performing blood draws, and accessing implanted ports

  • Demonstrated current clinical competency

  • Effective English communication skills

  • Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation

  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assess patients before, during, and after radiation oncology visits and treatments

  • Complete patient intake, medication reconciliation, focused assessments, and symptom screening

  • Start and maintain peripheral IVs, collect blood specimens, and access implanted ports within the RN’s authorized scope of practice

  • Administer medications, fluids, and supportive treatments as ordered

  • Monitor patients for treatment-related side effects, complications, and changes in condition

  • Perform skin, pain, nutritional, fatigue, and other treatment-related assessments

  • Coordinate care with radiation oncologists, physicians, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and other healthcare professionals

  • Educate patients and families about treatment plans, expected side effects, symptom management, skin care, medications, and follow-up needs

  • Provide emotional support to patients and families throughout treatment

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation

  • Follow NIH clinical protocols, radiation-safety practices, infection-control requirements, and professional standards

  • Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities

  • Float to another patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
