Tool and Die Machinist and Operator, Derry, NH

Fireye, LLC is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tool and Die Machinist & Manufacturing Support Technician to join our manufacturing team in Derry, New Hampshire. This position plays a critical role in supporting production operations through the maintenance, repair, fabrication, and continuous improvement of tooling, dies, molds, fixtures, and machined components.

The successful candidate will possess strong tool and die expertise combined with broad machining capabilities utilizing both conventional and CNC equipment. This role supports multiple manufacturing operations, including Injection Molding, Sheet Metal Stamping, Product Assembly, and New Product Development. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing tooling, performing preventive maintenance, fabricating production fixtures, supporting prototype development, and producing precision-machined components that contribute to the overall success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Tooling, Die, and Mold Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, modify, and reassemble progressive stamping dies.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections on injection molds, including disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly.
  • Evaluate molds, tooling, and dies to determine feasibility of in-house repairs and modifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve tooling, mold, and die performance issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of tooling, dies, molds, spare parts inventory, and maintenance activities.

Machining and Fabrication

  • Operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, saws, drill presses, and multi-axis CNC equipment.
  • Manufacture and modify tooling, fixtures, gauges, prototype components, and production parts to engineering specifications.
  • Develop machining fixtures and inspection gauges to support production efficiency and quality objectives.
  • Perform precision machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, grinding, tapping, and finishing.
  • Support new product development efforts through prototype fabrication and design modifications.

Production Support

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD-generated prints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and other inspection equipment.
  • Inspect completed components to ensure compliance with dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as necessary to maintain productivity and quality standards.
  • Perform basic soldering and silver brazing operations as required.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Maintenance teams to support operational goals.

Safety and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and tooling performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of tool and die construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Experience operating manual machining equipment and working knowledge of CNC machining processes.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Working knowledge of shop mathematics, including fractions, decimals, geometry, and measurement conversions.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team environment.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree, trade school certification, or equivalent technical training in Tool & Die, Machining Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in tool and die repair, mold maintenance, machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with progressive stamping dies and plastic injection molds strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and heavier items with assistance or lifting equipment.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate machinery, tooling, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment and machinery.
