Job Description

TEL Staffing is seeking an Engine Mechanic to join our team in Fairhope, AL.

*2 years of professional aviation, mechanical, industrial or maintenance experience or completion of aviation school is required.


Purpose of Position: To perform maintenance on aircraft engines, accessories, and components.

Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).

  • Performs maintenance duties on aircraft engines, accessories, and components in accordance with SAC Repair Station Manual, SAC Quality Manual, Customer SOP’s, and applicable technical data.

  • Using AeroTrac ERP system and company internal paperwork, accurately document the completion of maintenance performed.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment

  • Safe operation of the overhead crane

  • Complete and maintain Forklift Certification in accordance with company standards

  • Correct and safe use of specialty tools, torches, and chemicals as directed

  • Perform FOD (Foreign Object Debris) inspections, and toolbox inspections daily

  • Works to production schedule as directed by manager/lead

  • Communicates with manager/lead to recommend changes, such as equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase the efficiency of the department and promote improvement

  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy

  • Observe and practice all safety procedures and personal policies

  • Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner

  • Maintains a clean workstation free from Foreign Object and/or Debris (FOD), ensures tooling is properly stored

  • Maintains a clean/safe workspace free from spills or obstructions which may lead to harm

  • Travels as required

  • Confers with manager/lead to recommend changes such as: equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase the efficiency of the department and promote improvement

  • Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner

  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy

  • Works overtime as needed

  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. safety glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.)

  • Other duties as required

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job)

  • Must provide and maintain personal toolbox in accordance with Segers’ Tool Control Plan

  • Must be able to use large specialty tools such as torque wrenches, impact wrenches, hydraulic press and bearing pullers.

  • Must be able to obtain needed information and data from FAR’s, bulletins, and maintenance manuals to perform assigned maintenance functions.

  • Must be proficient in using a variety of hand tools, special tools, and GSE required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.

  • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors

  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and to take initiative

  • Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations

  • Must be able to apply common sense

  • Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English

  • Must be proficient in company-specific software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; compute percentages, ratios, rates and interpret graphs.

  • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all applicable PPE

  • Must have knowledge of precision measuring tools/equipment (dimensional and electrical)

  • Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses

  • Must be able to hear running machinery

  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively

  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally

  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead

  • Must regularly be able to squat, stoop, kneel, bend, twist and stand

  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally

  • Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions

Work Conditions:

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • 2 years of professional aviation, mechanical, industrial or maintenance experience or completion of aviation school is required.

  • Experience in performing maintenance on components in an MRO environment is preferred.

  • A&P license or FAA Power Plant Rating is preferred. In lieu of holding an A&P or P license, must be able to obtain a Repairman Certificate by satisfying the requirements as called out in the FAR.

  • Forklift certification is preferred.

  • Must pass a criminal background check.

  • Must pass a DOT FAA pre-employment drug screen and comply with all FAA regulations.

  • Position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.

  • Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions.

  • Must strive to continuously develop skills and pursue training opportunities.
