JOB TITLE: Construction Field Staff
DEPARTMENT: Program
REPORTS TO: Senior Construction Supervisor
OVERVIEW:
The Construction Field Staff reports to the Sr. Construction Supervisor. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on, highly proficient construction craftsman to work on our construction team. The successful applicant will have expertise and experience in finishing construction techniques and skills. The successful candidate’s belief system will align with the mission of Indian River Habitat and the fact that we were founded on Christian principles. In addition, the candidate must be able to work in a fast- paced, customer-facing role. Excellent organization, communication and collaboration skills, attention to detail, and flexibility are required. Experience working with volunteers a plus.
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about the mission of Indian River Habitat, embodies a servant’s heart, and a desire to share in the blessing of giving back to low-to-moderate income working families in need of an affordable home here in Indian River County.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In accordance with Indian River Habitat for Humanity Plans, Specifications, and quality requirements, supervises overall construction activity and provides day-to-day leadership to construction activity including all paid contractors.
- Works closely with Senior Construction Supervisor to ensure materials and service needs are provided for in a timely manner.
- Always treats everyone with respect and dignity. Strives to make their construction involvement meaningful and reminds them of this partnership requirement.
- Supports job site supervision of experienced and inexperienced volunteers.
- Understands elements that contribute to successful volunteers and helps ensure that volunteers have a consistently good experience thus motivating them to return.
- Anticipates problems and issues typical of this ministry and personally acts on same if necessary to help ensure schedules are met and work plans are enabled.
- Evaluates and implements good safety practices and constantly stresses same with house leaders and volunteers.
- Ensures that all communications are professional, accurate and courteous.
- Identifies volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and communicates needs to Senior Construction Supervisor.
- Trains all volunteers utilizing others on his/her team.
- Suggests potential cost saving building practices and material cost saving opportunities to construction chairperson as identified.
- Supports all site preparation and layout.
- Supports all warranty complaint and repairs, as directed.
- Works effectively with others to help accomplish all aspects and needs of the Affiliate.
- Meets long and short-term goals established jointly with Construction Manager.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A servant’s heart and a desire to serve low-to-moderate income working families in Indian River County.
- Considerable knowledge and experience in the construction/contracting business.
- Residential construction experience strongly preferred.
- Must enjoy being a part of a team; must be both a leader and a team player.
- Detail oriented and has the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to teach construction skills to inexperienced volunteers required.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions such that personal agendas are not foremost in mind.
- Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as needs arise.
- Must be willing to understand the big picture of the Habitat Ministry and know that construction is a part of the larger goal.
- Excellent communication skills.

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of fifty (50) pounds. This position also requires manual dexterity to operate equipment as necessary. Indian River Habitat expects all employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the Affiliate.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license, a clean driving record, and must be a legal resident of the United States.
