Job Description

Senior Designer Digital Banking (Credit Unions)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Designer – Digital Banking (Credit Unions) based in Canada.

This role is focused on shaping modern digital banking experiences for credit union members across web and mobile platforms.
You will lead UX/UI design efforts within complex financial ecosystems, working on real transformation programs rather than greenfield products.
The position requires strong systems thinking and the ability to design within existing vendor platforms and design systems.
You will collaborate closely with product, architecture, and engineering teams to translate business goals into intuitive member journeys.
A key part of the role involves balancing platform constraints with experience quality and innovation opportunities.
You will contribute to large-scale modernization initiatives that improve accessibility, usability, and digital engagement for financial institutions.
The environment is highly collaborative, structured, and focused on delivering scalable, compliant, and impactful banking experiences.

Accountabilities:

Lead and deliver end-to-end UX/UI design for digital banking initiatives, ensuring alignment with member needs and business objectives.

  • Design responsive web and mobile banking experiences across onboarding, authentication, payments, accounts, and dashboards
  • Work within vendor platform design systems (e.g., Backbase, Temenos, VeriPark, Forge, Intellect, Lumin or similar)
  • Translate business requirements into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs
  • Evaluate and recommend configuration vs extension vs bespoke solutions in collaboration with architects
  • Facilitate design workshops with stakeholders and present design decisions to technical and executive audiences
  • Create and maintain reusable UI components and contribute to evolving design systems
  • Ensure accessibility, usability, and consistency across all digital banking experiences
  • Support agile delivery cycles, including sprint planning, development handoff, and design validation
Requirements:

5+ years of experience in UX/UI design for web and mobile applications, with at least 3+ years in digital banking environments. Strong experience working within structured design systems and regulated industries is essential.

  • Hands-on experience with platforms such as Backbase, Temenos, VeriPark, Intellect Design, Central1 Forge, Lumin or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of digital banking journeys including onboarding, payments, authentication, and account management
  • Experience working within platform constraints and making informed configuration vs customization decisions
  • Proven ability to collaborate with product owners, solution architects, and engineering teams in Agile environments
  • Strong systems thinking combined with creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate design rationale and trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders
  • Experience with responsive design, accessibility standards, and scalable design systems
  • Experience working with credit unions or community banking environments is highly valued
  • University degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary: CAD $110,000 – $140,000, based on experience and platform expertise
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale digital transformation programs in financial services
  • Exposure to modern digital banking platforms and enterprise-grade design systems
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment with product, design, and engineering teams
  • Career growth within complex, high-impact experience design initiatives
