This role is a highly secure, mission-critical data engineering position supporting large-scale systems within a U.S. defense environment. You will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines, backend services, and integration layers that enable reliable data flow across complex enterprise systems. Working in a cleared, remote setting, you will collaborate with cloud, DevOps, and application teams to support modernization and cloud migration initiatives. The position requires strong backend engineering expertise and the ability to operate in regulated, high-security environments. Your work will directly contribute to system reliability, interoperability, and mission readiness for defense operations. This is a technically demanding role ideal for engineers who thrive in secure, high-impact federal programs.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, backend services, and system integrations supporting mission-critical defense applications.
- Build and optimize ETL/ELT processes and data workflows handling structured and semi-structured data in secure environments.
- Develop APIs, microservices, and backend components to support data accessibility and system interoperability.
- Collaborate with cloud, DevOps, and application engineering teams to ensure scalable and resilient architecture design.
- Troubleshoot and optimize data processing systems, backend services, and performance-related issues.
- Ensure data integrity, quality, security, and compliance with applicable federal and defense standards.
- Participate in full SDLC activities including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives across AWS, Azure, or GovCloud environments.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation workflows, and deployment processes.
- Work within secure environments while maintaining adherence to cleared program protocols and procedures.
Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Active Top Secret (TS) clearance required to start; TS/SCI or SCI eligibility strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, backend development, or related technical roles.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals with proven experience in scalable system design.
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines, integrations, or data processing workflows.
- Strong SQL expertise and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or similar systems.
- Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or equivalent.
- Experience using Git-based version control systems and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud.
- Exposure to data engineering frameworks such as Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt, or NiFi is highly desirable.
- Experience with containerization and CI/CD tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI is a plus.
- Understanding of federal cybersecurity standards such as NIST or FISMA is preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, secure, and mission-driven environment.
