Job Description
The Patient Registration Specialist is responsible for offering friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to check-in, and check-out in support of Occupational Medical Services at the Hanford site in Richland, Washington. This is a union position.
Requirements:POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review charts for upcoming appointments and confirm information accuracy.
- Instruct patients on the completion of intake forms, case histories and other documentation and ensure completion.
- Properly secure all medical records and confidential information in accordance with established procedures.
- Direct patients through appropriate services to maintain clinic flow.
- Perform quality assurance audits on all documents for accuracy and completion after services.
- Complete close-out paperwork upon check-out
- Ensure patient confidentiality in compliance with IHA Privacy Practices and HIPAA regulations.
- Audit end of day Record of Visit data daily.
- Support all case management and provider staff coordinating special requests.
- Maintain front desk organization and supply inventory for both facilities.
- Answer multi-line telephone calls and respond to routine inquiries or route as necessary.
- Serve as liaison with medical schedules in assisting patients for follow-up appointment and resolving appointment conflicts.
- Perform daily close of business procedures for the front desk, which includes the securing of all confidential information and the closing of the facility.
- Display responsible behaviors and communicate effectively to others.
- Demonstrate competency and problem solving in skills related to job duties.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the minimum educational credentials from an accredited school, college or university and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
- The Patient Registration Specialist shall have 6 months of experience in a related field.
- Ability to travel to multisite locations.
- Ability to cover after-hour shifts if needed.
- Ability to use Microsoft products, electronic medical records, and email.
- Typing skills of 45 wpm or higher preferred.
- Excellent telephone customer service skills, strong interpersonal communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: The following skills or experience are highly valued, but not required to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Preferred 6 months of experience in related field.

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a clinical environment that may involve bending, stooping, stretching, kneeling, standing and lifting occasionally.
