Joseph’s House & Shelter, an award winning non-profit agency in the Capital Region is looking for per-diem and part-time Support Staff to join our team. These Support Staff will be responsible for working with our formerly homeless tenants who have a primary diagnosis of mental illness, alcohol and/or substance abuse. These open positions are based in Lansingburgh, Albany, and Troy. The right candidate will be empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental, and able to understand the Harm Reduction/Housing First model of housing homeless individuals.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operation of the Hill Street Inn or Lansing Inn during the evening, overnight and weekend shifts in accordance with established rules and procedures.
- To provide comfort and hospitality to all Hill Street and Lansing Inn House tenants.
- To ensure the safety and comfort of all tenants during the evening/overnight and weekend shifts.
- To supervise all operations during the evening/overnight and weekend shifts.
- To ensure that all shift responsibilities are met, including all necessary cleaning and meal preparation.
- To attend regularly scheduled supervisory meetings with the Shift Coordinator.
- To work a flexible schedule to meet program needs.
- To make necessary entries into the log book.
- Demonstrates ability and flexibility to work as a team member.
- Is consistent and follows through on all assigned tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, or substance use disorders is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to providing non-judgmental, person-centered support.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Google email
