Fabrication Team Lead – Structural Steel & Welding
Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: Starting at $30.00/hour+ (higher based on experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Team Lead to oversee daily shop operations within a structural steel fabrication environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating workflow, supporting production goals, and guiding fitters and welders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
The ideal candidate has strong fabrication knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to maintain productivity in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Collaborate with shop leadership to meet production schedules and delivery deadlines
- Lead and support fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel during daily operations
- Assign tasks and balance workloads to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Provide technical guidance related to fit-up, welding, layout, and blueprint interpretation
- Troubleshoot fabrication and production issues as they arise
- Monitor workflow and communicate schedule updates or production concerns to leadership
- Reinforce safety procedures, quality standards, and shop policies
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to reduce equipment downtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Support employee training, onboarding, and performance development
- Partner with Quality Control to ensure fabrication work meets required standards
- Assist with dimensional checks, inspections, and documentation as needed
- Perform additional shop leadership duties as assigned
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or supervising structural steel fabrication teams
- Strong background in welding, fit-up, layout, and structural steel fabrication
- Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment and shop machinery
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints
- Understanding of safety procedures, quality standards, and production workflows
- Experience with Tekla EPM/GO is preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or flexible schedules as production demands require
