Job Description
Job Summary:
The Field Mechanic performs maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles directly on job sites. This role ensures that machinery remains safe, reliable, and operational to support daily construction activities with minimal downtime.
Teamwork Responsibilities:
Works closely with equipment operators, superintendents, shop personnel, and project teams to identify equipment needs and ensure timely repairs that support production goals and internal KPI’s.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains heavy construction equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, trucks, and attachments. • Performs on-site troubleshooting, hydraulic and electrical repairs, and routine maintenance services. • Conducts equipment inspections to identify issues, wear, and preventive maintenance needs. • Ensures all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. • Maintains accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment status. • Communicates repair needs, timelines, and recommendations to supervisors and equipment management. • Operates service trucks and maintains tools, inventory, and mobile equipment in good working order. Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills. • Ability to diagnose issues independently and perform quality repairs. • Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively with field and shop teams. • Strong understanding of construction equipment safety standards. Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred. • 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic working with heavy equipment or diesel engines. • Experience in field service or mobile equipment repair preferred. • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and work in tight or elevated spaces. • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and handle heavy tools and equipment.
