Job Description
Position Summary: This position is responsible for being a liaison between their home clinic and Hand Therapy leadership while also providing specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment to prevent dysfunction, restore function and/or reverse the progression of pathology of the upper limb. Excellent clinical judgment and therapeutic interventions will be utilized to treat surgical and non-surgical conditions. Rehabilitation will be inclusive of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder girdle, cervical area and how these areas affect the entire upper quarter.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Treatment:
- Evaluate upper extremity and relevant patient characteristics.
- Obtain and review medical, psychosocial, vocational, and avocational history.
- Identify factors that may affect rehab potential.
- Conduct assessment and identify impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities.
- Determine prognosis and plan of care.
- Establish functional and measurable goals of intervention with an anticipated time frame for attainment.
- Establish frequency and duration of interventions in collaboration with the patient and referring physician within the guidelines of third-party payers.
- Implement and modify therapeutic interventions.
- Complete assessment and accurate fabrication of custom orthoses.
- Develop patient education plans and home programs.
- Collaborate with other therapists, physicians, and nurse practitioners to ensure the highest quality of care and best outcomes.
- Promote professional practice by utilizing evidence-based practice; interpreting and applying clinical research and outcomes studies; assessing patient satisfaction; maintaining ethical standards; and complying with safety, regulatory agency, and organizational standards and procedures with particular attention to confidentiality.
- Document and bill for services provided.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Lead Responsibilities:
- Regularly answers questions and concerns specific to the assigned location. Communicate these questions and concerns to leadership to ensure they align with departmental expectations.
- Monitor and communicate supply and equipment needs.
- Answer front desk questions regarding scheduling, patient intake, and referral/authorization questions.
- Answer clinical questions and communicate challenging cases to leadership.
- Manage and balance the schedule between therapists.
- Assist leadership with organizing and planning quarterly leadership meetings with surgeons and hand therapists.
Records and Reports:
- Prepare documentation and reports, ensuring confidentiality of all records:
- Evaluation including thorough assessment with functional and measurable goals.
- Daily and Progress reports to include progression of treatment and reasoning for the need for skilled care.
- All Documentation to be completed and provided to physician/agencies within the department's time frame.
- Completion of peer reviews/chart audits with written feedback
- Special reports as requested by the Director and/or Manager.
Professional Status and Public Relations:
- Maintains current professional knowledge of techniques and trends in the field through consistent communication with peers, physicians/mid-levels as well as self-study.
- Attends conventions, meetings, or special courses whenever possible and shares gained information with the department/facility personnel.
- Prepares and presents educational presentations to department and community groups as requested.
- Maintains positive relationships with hand team, patients, physicians, mid-levels and community.
Teamwork:
- Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management.
- Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner.
- Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.
- Addresses conflicts with person directly before involving manager or uninvolved peers.
- Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone, and noise in department.
Policies and Procedures
- Knows and complies with policies and procedures as included in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
- Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Actively participates in training and conducting day-to-day work activities by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.
Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
Minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s, Master's, or Doctorate in Occupational or Physical Therapy. Hand Therapy Certification is required. Minimum of 1 year of employment as a CHT at Orthopedic One. The position will require full-time status, 30-40 hours per week.
