POSITION SUMMARY

The Bulk Material Operator 2 is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of raw materials throughout the facility, supporting production, quality, and logistics operations. This role involves operating stationary and diesel-powered material handling equipment, railcar unloading systems, truck scales, and material transfer systems to move bulk materials from trucks and railcars into silos and production systems. While forklift operation is required, this position does not involve driving a forklift all day. Most responsibilities focus on bulk material transfer, sampling, documentation, and coordination with the laboratory to ensure material quality and compliance. Material movement can be physically demanding, requiring frequent handling of heavy hoses, equipment connections, assembly of large Gaylord boxes for resin transfer, and work in an industrial environment where attention to detail, safety, and physical endurance are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Material Receiving, Transfer & Processing

  • Receive inbound raw materials via truck and railcar, ensuring accurate identification, labeling, and documentation of all materials upon arrival.
  • Operate Dunbar material handling systems, including diesel and stationary pumps, to transfer bulk resin and raw materials.
  • Unload railcars using a railcar unloader system and transfer material into designated silos.
  • Connect, disconnect, and manage heavy-duty resin transfer hoses to silos, railcars, and trucks during material transfer operations.
  • Blend, transfer, and stage silo materials to support production requirements.

Forklift & Equipment Operation

  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to move packaged materials, pallets, containers, and finished goods.
  • Load and unload trucks in accordance with weight, packaging, and material-specific requirements.

Weighing, Scaling & Documentation

  • Accurately scale inbound and outbound trucks using facility truck scales.
  • Generate, complete, and verify Bills of Lading (BOLs) and shipping/receiving documentation.
  • Weigh, record, and stage materials according to lab-issued Bills of Material (BOMs) and blend instructions.

Sampling & Quality Coordination

  • Pull representative samples from all incoming materials (truck and railcar).
  • Coordinate with the laboratory team to determine material acceptability before release to production.
  • Maintain strict attention to detail to prevent contamination and ensure traceability.

Inventory, Safety & Compliance

  • Perform accurate labeling of all materials, containers, silos, and staging areas.
  • Assist with inventory control activities, including cycle counts and reconciliations.
  • Ensure cleanliness of railcars, hoses, and transfer equipment in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Keep fire lanes, safety zones, and work areas clear and compliant.
  • Follow all OSHA, environmental, and company safety procedures at all times.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-training, including laboratory support as assigned.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education/Experience:

HS Diploma or GED (Preferred)

  • Understanding of shipping, receiving, and material handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and documentation practices.
  • Ability to accurately weigh, record, and stage materials based on lab-issued instructions.
  • Possess knowledge of inventory control practices and hands-on experience with cycle counting (preferred)
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to safety.
  • Understanding of product contamination risks and the appropriate measures required to prevent contamination
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Forklift certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of forklift experience required
  • Minimum 6 months of experience loading and unloading trucks

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The role involves regular handling, lifting, pulling, and positioning of heavy resin transfer hoses used in truck, railcar, and silo connections, as well as the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and grasping are common, and the employee must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, dust, noise, and exposure to raw materials. Specific vision abilities are required for reading labels, gauges, scale readings, and documentation. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
