About the role
Imagineeer is seeking a Senior Database Administrator specializing in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL to support ongoing database operations across a federal contract environment. This role is responsible for the health, performance, and security of database environments, including upgrades, patching, and deployment activities critical to system reliability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform database upgrades, version migrations, and patch management for SQL Server and PostgreSQL across development, test, and production environments
- Plan and execute database deployments, including schema changes, releases, and configuration updates
- Monitor database performance, tuning queries, indexes, and configurations to optimize efficiency across both platforms
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability
- Implement and maintain database security controls, access management, and audit logging in line with federal compliance requirements (NIST, FISMA)
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents, working closely with infrastructure and application teams
- Support vulnerability remediation and compliance scanning related to database environments
- Maintain documentation for database configurations, standard operating procedures, and change records
- Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to support CI/CD integration for database changes
- Partner with Program Management to support contract deliverables and reporting requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
- Demonstrated experience performing database upgrades, patching, and version migrations across SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL
- Strong experience with database deployment processes and release management
- Experience with backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning
- Solid understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment
- U.S. Citizenship (per contract requirements)
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server certification
- PostgreSQL certification (e.g., EDB Certified Associate/Professional)
- Prior experience supporting federal government contracts
- Experience with SQL Server high availability configurations (Always On, clustering) and PostgreSQL replication/HA setups
- Familiarity with automation/scripting for database maintenance tasks (PowerShell, T-SQL, PL/pgSQL)
