Principal Architect, Platform Engineering Blink Charging | 10+ Years | Tier 1 Institution Preferred (IIT / NIT / IIIT or equivalent)

We are at a stage where the platform needs someone who owns the big picture. We have multiple teams, a growing set of services, and an increasing need to move fast with confidence. We need a Principal Architect who can set the technical direction, connect the dots across teams, and ensure every architectural decision we make today builds a stronger, more scalable platform for tomorrow. This is a role for someone who is deeply embedded in the engineering reality of the platform and elevates everyone around them.

You are obsessed with reliability and you design for failure before it happens. You engage across the full stack, from backend services to mobile, and you bring the same rigour to every layer. You have naturally made AI and modern tooling part of how you work. You take ownership of the platform's technical health and you are restless about continuously raising the bar.

You have operated in engineering environments where scale is not a future problem but a present reality. Where distributed systems, high throughput, and reliability are part of everyday engineering, not aspirational goals.

What You Bring

Must Have

  • Deep experience designing and evolving large scale distributed cloud native microservices platforms covering scalability, HA, resiliency, fault isolation and recovery
  • Strong hands-on engineering experience across backend and frontend stacks, able to engage meaningfully on critical paths and complex code reviews across Java Spring Boot, Node.js, React and React Native
  • Platform wide architecture ownership, defining standards, design patterns, service boundaries and integration approaches across multiple teams
  • Deep experience with Kafka and event driven architectures including async behaviour, retries, idempotency and eventual consistency at high throughput production scale
  • Docker and Kubernetes, container orchestration, scaling strategies, resource management and deployment patterns for high availability systems
  • Redis and caching strategies at scale, knowing when and how to cache and the tradeoffs involved in distributed caching
  • AWS at depth, designing cost efficient, high availability cloud native architectures and driving cloud cost optimisation
  • Strong RDBMS design and performance tuning with PostgreSQL and working experience with MongoDB at scale
  • Distributed systems design patterns including circuit breakers, bulkhead, retry, backoff, saga and eventual consistency
  • Application level SRE thinking, guiding teams on reliability, fault tolerance, graceful degradation and designing systems that fail safely
  • Security first design, zero trust principles, access control, secure integrations and safe defaults across application, data and infrastructure layers
  • Contributing to PCI DSS scoping and remediation, working collaboratively with DevOps to meet compliance and regulatory standards
  • Release governance, owning risk assessment, rollback strategies and release readiness from an architecture standpoint
  • Observability at platform level, ensuring meaningful instrumentation, alerting and operational visibility across all services using Prometheus, Grafana and AWS CloudWatch
  • Actively using Gen AI and modern tooling to improve productivity, architectural thinking and engineering quality
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to reason about complex system behaviour and long term consequences of architectural decisions

Good to Have

  • Service mesh, API gateway and inter service traffic management concepts
  • Distributed tracing and OpenTelemetry, understanding request flows across complex service topologies and guiding teams on meaningful instrumentation.
  • Performance profiling and tuning at application, database and infrastructure layer
  • Feature flags, canary releases and progressive delivery for safe deployments at scale
  • Familiarity with payment systems, transaction integrity and financial data compliance
  • Multi tenancy and data isolation patterns for platforms serving multiple operators

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical architecture of the platform end to end, making pragmatic decisions that balance immediate needs with long term maintainability and scale
  • Define and evolve architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering principles across teams, ensuring consistency and quality at every layer
  • Lead architecture reviews for new features, services, and integrations, identifying risks and tradeoffs early before they become production problems
  • Drive platform wide reliability by guiding teams on HA, resiliency, fault tolerance, and cloud native design from the application side
  • Own release readiness from an architecture standpoint, flagging risks, defining rollback strategies, and ensuring safe deployments across the platform
  • Contribute to PCI and compliance scoping and remediation, working closely with DevOps to ensure the platform meets security and regulatory standards
  • Lead deep technical debugging and root cause analysis on critical production incidents, driving permanent architectural fixes rather than repeated workarounds
  • Proactively identify and reduce systemic technical debt through steady incremental architectural improvements that keep the platform moving forward
  • Set the direction for observability, ensuring systems are instrumented, monitored, and alerting is meaningful and actionable across all services
  • Guide teams on designing systems that are testable, observable, and secure by default, reducing production surprises and regression risk
  • Drive cloud cost optimisation through architectural decisions, right sizing, and eliminating waste at scale
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point across engineering teams for complex design and production challenges.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly across engineers, product, and leadership, making architecture visible and understandable to all stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide Tech Leads and senior engineers, helping them grow into stronger technical decision makers independently
  • Collaborate closely with Tech Leads, QA, DevOps, and Product ensuring architectural decisions translate into reliable, high quality releases
  • Stay ahead of evolving tools, patterns, and technologies, bringing in better ways of working including AI where it adds real value
