POSITION: Associate Director of Field Engagement

REPORTS TO: Director of Field Engagement

SECTION: Field Engagement

STATUS: Exempt, Non-Bargaining

SALARY: $96,000 - $102,000


Summary Description: The Associate Director of Field Engagement will work under the supervision of and in partnership with the Director of Field Engagement (FE Director) to develop strategies for unlocking the power of CLINIC’s network through deep relationship building. The individual in this role will serve as a strategic partner to the director to ensure a streamlined and enhanced affiliate experience that establishes strategies for affiliate recruitment, evaluation, onboarding, engagement, retention, and sustainable growth for CLINIC’s network of charitable immigration legal services organizations (“CLINIC affiliates”) and partner legal services organizations. The Associate Director of Field Engagement will also provide direct supervision and mentorship to other members of the FE team.


Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership, Management and Administration

  • Work with the FE Director in developing and implementing section priorities, including yearly goals for FE, budgets, project design and resource development.
  • Assist the FE Director in the day-to-day management of the section, including optimizing the team’s efficiency and effectiveness and maintaining collaborative relationships with affiliates, prospective affiliates, and strategic partners.
  • Contribute input and oversight for grant-funded projects, as needed.
  • Provide leadership, direction, supervision, and support to direct reports to ensure clarity in roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and offer regular feedback and guidance to staff.
  • Ensure quality control mechanisms and monitor staff’s effective use of CLINIC’s resources. Monitor and assess field engagement strategies implemented by direct reports to build deep relationships with members of the field through check-in calls, conference calls, coalition building and other engagement activities.
  • Assess staff resource and developmental needs, develop strategies and budgets for meeting those needs, and facilitate access to developmental resources.

    • Intra and Cross-Sectional Collaboration

  • Implement (and update as needed) a CLINIC-wide strategy to gather real time information and best practices through relationship building to inform CLINIC’s work.
  • Coordinate with other CLINIC teams to provide accurate and comprehensive information and guidance to CLINIC affiliates and partner LSPs (as appropriate) on CLINIC affiliate benefits, tools to discern whether and how to create authorized immigration legal services, and other general inquiries as needed.
  • Manage projects that support field activities and require cross-sectional agency support.
  • Coordinate with CLINIC’s database administrator to solve problems, run queries, reports, and engagement metrics to ensure the member portal and the database are in sync.
  • Partner with CLINIC’s Communications team in promoting CLINIC’s Field Engagement work through the creation and updating (as needed) of CLINIC’s publications, resources, website, and social media.
  • Assist in drafting appeal letters, grant proposals, and grant reports in collaboration with CLINIC’s Advancement team to support staff expenses, section operations, and projects.


    • Affiliate Engagement

  • Create, lead, and maintain CLINIC’s communication channels for robust and regular engagement, including cohort calls and peer to peer learning opportunities.
  • Ensure a streamlined and enhanced affiliate experience that establishes strategies for affiliate recruitment, evaluation, onboarding, engagement, retention, growth and compliance.
  • Support the integrity of CLINIC’s Affiliate Network by helping evaluate organizational readiness, sustainable legal service models, and alignment with CLINIC’s mission and DOJ Recognition and Accreditation expectations.
  • Establish, strengthen, and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders and coalitions whose objectives include increased and improved immigrant inclusion particularly through the development of immigration legal services nationwide.
  • Update CLINIC staff, network, and partners and other relevant stakeholders on developments in the field of immigration legal services, immigrant inclusion and legal empowerment strategies.
  • Represent CLINIC to other national and local organizations and attend virtual and in person meetings required by grants and as assigned.


    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in management, social work, or related discipline, required, graduate degree in management, social work, or related discipline preferred.
  • Ten years of experience working in immigration services field and/or non profit immigration legal services including program management, organizational/strategic planning, and program evaluation/assessment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management, administration, and supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of immigration laws/policies/regulations; delivery of direct immigration legal services; resource development strategies; best practices; and non-profit management.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Justice Recognition and Accreditation (R&A) program and its role in supporting high-quality, authorized immigration legal services is preferred.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded initiatives, including project implementation, reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance requirements, is preferred.
  • Database development, workflow development, and report writing, preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Catholic social teaching on immigration preferred.Experience building and maintaining relationships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, coalitions, and other community groups preferred.
  • Ability to manage and supervise multiple levels of diverse personnel.
  • Ability to travel on occasion for trainings, meetings, and conferences.
  • Excellent public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters relating to personnel and sensitive policy matters involved in the leadership of the agency.
