INTRODUCTION:
The incumbent shall be sensitive to the diversity of Native cultures as well as have knowledge of the disease of alcoholism/substance abuse as it relates to criminality and the ability to provide and coordinate direct aftercare activities is critical. Must be sensitive to gender specific and gender diversity needs and issue.
DUTIES:
- Provide individual and group skill building for independent living, physical, and recreational activities.
- Participate with outpatient staff in planning and providing aftercare services.
- Participate with outpatient staff in making referrals to tribal and other community resources and twelve step groups.
- Prepare and complete program reports.
- Update records to document client services delivered.
- Maintain up-to-date client records according to Indian Health Service, state, and program standards.
- Visit jails, prisons, and institutions to build rapport with incarcerated Native Americans before they are discharged to ease their transition.
- Help people incarcerated develop a discharge plan and support their discharge plan.
- Support re-entry into society by helping the discharged individual navigate services.
- Provide transportation to essential meetings or appointments such as medical, parole and probation, self-help, etc.
- Aid in socialization of the discharged individual through family reunification or other positive social circles.
- Help individuals with a criminal record build and establish a resume, cover letter, or connect them with services that will fulfill this need.
- Build rapport through life skill development such as shopping or other daily activities that will increase their success.
REQUIREMENTS:
Re-Entry Mentor I – Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) Trainee
TL 110: High School diploma or GED and one year of verifiable experience in a human services field. Must be able and willing to become certified, within 12-months, as a Certified Recovery Mentor through the Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) that includes the completion of 80 hours of supervised experience by an Outpatient Counselor III and 40 hours of Alcohol and Drug Education.
Re-Entry Mentor II – Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM)
TL 114: The Peer Recovery Mentor I transitions to a Peer Recovery Mentor II after obtaining CRM certification through MHACBO with 2 years of experience in the Behavioral Health (BH) field, satisfactory evaluations, and approval from the BH Department Administrator.
Knowledge of:
- A clear understanding of Tribal and other services available to assist the person in recovery.
Ability to:
- Work with a wide variety of people, and communicate effectively with program staff, clients, and the community.
- Demonstrate cultural competency in direct service, within the organization, and in program planning and development.
- Network effectively with Tribal and community agencies and the multidisciplinary team.
Other:
- Abstinence during employment in this capacity is essential to the overall effectiveness of the program. Individuals in recovery from the disease of alcoholism and/or other drug dependence must affirm that previous employment performance has not been impaired by alcoholism/substance abuse over the past two years.
- First Aid and CPR or must acquire within six months of hire.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.
