Job Description
Joseph Machine Company (JMC) is a growing OEM of highly automated equipment serving leading manufacturers in the window and door industry. We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, implement, and support medium- to large-scale industrial control systems.
Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing complete electrical control systems, including schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, and hardware documentation. This role supports custom machine projects, collaborates with mechanical engineering, and contributes to continuous improvement, troubleshooting, and standardization efforts. The position reports to the Controls Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
• Design electrical control systems including schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of material using AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical.
• Specify and configure PLCs, drives, motion systems, and control hardware.
• Support custom machine development in collaboration with mechanical engineering.
• Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues in manufacturing and field support.
• Ensure compliance with UL508A and NEC standards.
• Identify design improvements and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Support commissioning, documentation, training, and standardization efforts.
• Maintain controls documentation, ECRs, and production checklists.
• Promote safe work practices and compliance with company policies.
Qualifications
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 2+ years of controls engineering experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar CAD tools.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, drives, servos, motion control, safety systems, and HMIs.
• Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, and Trio experience preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting skills; able to multitask in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (10–15%).
