Overview:
The Medical Assistant (MA) for the Nursing Department is responsible for assisting patients, providers and pharmacies with medication related issues via phone and in person. The MA will conduct visits to administer injections, provide patient education regarding medications as well as to provide prescription refill bridges between provider appointments per a designated refill algorithm. The MA will maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Main Responsibilities:
- Receive and process incoming requests from patients, pharmacies, and providers regarding patient medication via phone, fax and within out EMR
- Follow an approved decision-making algorithm to approve or deny patient requests for medication refills
- Troubleshoot and problem solve issues with patient medications
- Submit medication prior authorizations to insurance companies
- Maintain control of medication samples
- Educate patients and their families to promote overall well being
- Document all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate area in the EMR
- Conduct visits with patients
- Perform injections, EKG/ECG, using aseptic technique
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Must be certified as a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) or CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant)
- One-year Psychiatric Experience, preferred
- Intermediate computer skills
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Strong customer service and client care skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and work with minimal direct supervision
- Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability speak, read, and write English fluently required
- Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of a Windows Computer and Microsoft office products
- Must achieve proficiency in the following programs
- Electronic Medical Record
- Electronic Prescribing System
- Insurance eligibility and verification systems
- Any other systems used in conjunction with the position
- Must adhere to HIPAA and HITECH guidelines at all times
