The role requires a highly pragmatic legal leader who can translate complex legal frameworks into actionable business guidance. You will oversee a broad legal portfolio including commercial contracts, employment, privacy, corporate governance, insurance, and dispute resolution. This is a high-impact position where legal infrastructure is built not only to protect the business, but also to enable scale and operational speed.

Accountabilities

  • Oversee commercial contracting, including drafting, negotiating, and standardizing agreements with vendors, partners, enterprise clients, and service providers.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution strategy, including external counsel selection, risk assessment, and settlement decisions.
  • Design and oversee enterprise risk management and insurance programs, ensuring appropriate coverage, claims handling, and risk transfer mechanisms.
  • Provide legal guidance on employment matters across multiple jurisdictions, supporting HR in building compliant and defensible workforce practices.
  • Lead corporate governance, entity management, and support financing, fundraising, and strategic transactions.
  • Oversee intellectual property, privacy, and data protection compliance across products, platforms, and operations.
  • Build and lead the internal legal and regulatory function while managing external counsel relationships effectively.
  • Develop scalable legal frameworks, policies, and templates that enable efficient and consistent business operations.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house counsel experience supporting operating companies in fast-paced environments.
  • Qualified lawyer with a JD (or equivalent) and active bar membership in Canada or a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Strong expertise in commercial law, contract negotiation, and enterprise risk management.
  • Proven experience managing litigation, regulatory matters, and external legal counsel.
  • Deep understanding of employment law, corporate governance, and transactional legal work.
  • Familiarity with privacy, data protection, and intellectual property frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate legal risk into practical business decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate independently in complex, high-growth, and ambiguous environments.
  • Experience in technology-enabled, platform-based, or hospitality-related industries is a plus.
Benefits
  • Competitive executive compensation package including base salary, bonus, and equity eligibility.
  • Fully remote work flexibility with autonomy over work location.
  • Comprehensive health coverage, including medical, dental, and wellness benefits.
  • Equity participation and long-term incentive opportunities aligned with company growth.
  • Flexible PTO policy supporting work-life balance.
  • Home office and connectivity stipends for remote work support.
  • Travel and accommodation perks within company properties and partner network.
  • Retirement savings plan support (e.g., 401(k) or local equivalent depending on region).
