Job Description

Design Director, Provider Experience

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Design Director, Provider Experience based in the United States.

This is a high-impact leadership role focused on shaping the end-to-end experience for mental health providers using a modern, AI-enabled practice platform. You will define and drive the design vision for complex clinical and administrative workflows spanning scheduling, documentation, telehealth, billing, and client engagement. The role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and research, requiring strong systems thinking and the ability to simplify deeply interconnected experiences. You will lead a design team while remaining hands-on in key strategic initiatives as a player-coach. The environment is fast-moving, highly collaborative, and deeply mission-driven, with a strong emphasis on AI-native product development. This is an opportunity to influence how thousands of providers deliver care at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and lead the design vision for the provider EHR experience, ensuring seamless workflows across scheduling, clinical documentation, telehealth, billing, and patient engagement, while embedding AI-first principles into core product interactions.
  • Manage, grow, and mentor a high-performing design team, setting a strong craft standard while enabling designers to operate effectively in complex, high-stakes product areas.
  • Act as a hands-on design leader (player-coach), owning key strategic initiatives and directly shaping critical AI-powered features and workflows.
  • Ensure end-to-end coherence across provider and patient experiences, aligning marketplace, onboarding, and care delivery flows into a unified system.
  • Prototype and iterate rapidly using modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, MagicPatterns), translating concepts into testable experiences and guiding productization decisions with engineering partners.
  • Lead user research efforts by engaging directly with providers to validate assumptions, refine workflows, and ensure real-world usability and impact.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the design system and team practices, sharing AI-driven workflows, patterns, and design standards across the organization.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience leading design teams on complex B2B SaaS platforms with strong consumer-grade UX expectations.
  • Proven experience in high-growth or mature product environments, with the ability to scale design teams and establish strong operating models.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with a track record of influencing product and engineering strategy through design vision and systems thinking.
  • Experience designing AI-native or AI-augmented product experiences, with an understanding of how AI reshapes workflows rather than just adding features.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on design execution with leadership responsibilities in a player-coach capacity.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing both high-quality individual contributions and scalable design systems or frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range: $249,600 – $312,000, plus potential equity grant depending on level and eligibility.
  • Equity compensation offering ownership in the company’s long-term success.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • HSA/FSA options to support flexible healthcare spending.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Work-from-home stipend to support remote productivity.
  • Therapy reimbursement and mental health support benefits.
  • 16-week parental leave for eligible employees.
  • Fertility support program with annual reimbursement and membership benefits.
  • 13 paid holidays plus a dedicated holiday break at year-end.
  • Flexible PTO policy supporting work-life balance.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for additional support resources.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
