Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for qualified public safety professionals to serve as Safe School Officers in a school environment. This position is suited for individuals with a background in law enforcement, corrections, military service, armed security, school safety, or emergency response.

The selected candidate will contribute to a secure learning environment by providing an active security presence, identifying potential risks, responding to incidents, assisting with emergency procedures, and working professionally with students, educators, administrators, and first responders.

Candidates who currently hold an FDLE certification, as well as eligible public safety professionals who may qualify for certification, are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do
• Provide daily security coverage across the assigned school campus.
• Observe campus activity and identify situations that may present a safety concern.
• Take appropriate action during emergencies, security incidents, and other critical situations.
• Assist with preventing and managing conflicts through effective communication and de-escalation techniques.
• Work cooperatively with school administrators, faculty, students, parents, and responding agencies.
• Participate in emergency drills, safety exercises, and preparedness activities.
• Complete incident documentation, reports, and other required records accurately and on time.
• Follow established school security policies and applicable safety protocols.
• Maintain readiness to respond to serious threats, including active-threat situations.
• Promote a professional, respectful, and safety-focused environment throughout the campus.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Current FDLE certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of combined professional experience in one or more relevant fields, such as:
o Law enforcement
o School security
o Armed security
o Corrections
o Military service
o Emergency response
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Demonstrated understanding of security, public safety, and emergency procedures.
• Previous experience handling emergency or crisis situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively and de-escalate difficult situations.
• Advanced firearms knowledge and tactical training.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to complete detailed and accurate reports.
• Sound judgment, situational awareness, and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to interact professionally with students, school employees, administrators, and public safety personnel.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Successful completion of required background screening.
• Successful completion of required drug screening.
• Successful completion of required psychological evaluation(s).
• Ability to work on-site at the assigned school.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, and remain active for extended periods, including indoor and outdoor environments.
• Ability to comply with applicable state, local, and school district requirements.

Certification Opportunity
Individuals with qualifying public safety experience may be considered for an FDLE certification opportunity. Eligible candidates may be able to complete a one-day certification session through a Florida Sheriff's Office, subject to eligibility, availability, and applicable approval requirements.

Preferred Background
The following education, training, or professional experience is considered an asset:
• Criminal Justice
• Law Enforcement
• Security Management
• Military or public safety training
• Emergency Management
• Additional school safety or crisis-response training

Work Schedule
• Full-time position
• 8-hour shifts
• On-site assignment

Pay
Starting rate: $26.00 per hour
Required Duty Equipment
Depending on the assignment, officers may be required to provide or have access to standard duty equipment, which may include:
• Firearm, when applicable to the assignment
• Level III retention holster and duty belt
• Additional magazines and standard duty gear
